so I am planning to go to my local cigar shop after work today. I have tried and enjoyed the acid kuba kuba as a first cigar, but I think I want something with thicker and sweeter smoke, and something thats not oddly flavored, even though I might still prefer the flavors. So is that what I should ask the guy?

thanks, I know the whole cigar thing is about style for many and didnt want to get odd looks at the shop

hopefully they're nicer than that or you probably shouldn't waste your money on them. I'm a noob too and every shop owner I talked to about my ignorance is usually very eager to help me out on a decision and education about the different smokes

Probably being a newcomer to cigars, you would want to try something mild on the palate. Probably something like an AVO or Gispert, with a good Connecticut shade wrapper. Next up, with a litle more flavor would be a Perdomo Reserve Champagne, again with a shade wrapper but a little more complex. There is no right or wrong question, or right or wrong answer. Pick out a few cigars to try and find something that you like. You may ask them for something that would go well with an after dinner wine or port. It's all about discovering what you like.

Your local tobacconist should, and will, point you in the right direction. That is what they are there for. Just keep trying new sticks and see what you like. I continue to try out new sticks but have my fav's that I have come to love. It is all up to YOUR preference.

When I started smoking, my local suggested the following:

Montesino Robusto (natural)
Diamond Crown #4
A. Fuente Rothschild (natural)
Macanudo corona (don't remeber the label)

These are mild and good quality smokes. Keep experimenting, buying a couple of different smokes at a time to try.

I took notes on each so I could remember what I liked (and didn't like). There are so many labels/brands to choose from that it can be overwhelming.

he suggested a couple double maduro long leaf smokes, one traditional and one pyramid. I liked the price and that I havent had a pyramid yet, I'll check the band tonight. Liked it a lot. Nice guy, rough but nice. Nothing but scorn for this magazine and the "type of people like that" but he was just more casual and realistic than some of the articles I have seen written. I think I'll like buying cigars from him
