All right, One and All... weigh in! How about organizing it like this: 1. Your favorite "everyday" Fuente? 2. Your favorite "special occasion" Fuente? 3. The most overrated Fuente? 4. The most underrated Fuente?
If possible, can we keep it to the actual Fuente line and NOT the Opus X, Cuesta-Rey, La Unica, Montesino products?
Actually, the organization is just for Digital Demon All others can answer any way they want. He has to attach a spreadsheet and a downloadable PDF

Again, since FFOX are out, I honestly think Don Carlos are a little overated. I've only had a few, and they didnt impress me too much for the price.
4. The most underrated Fuente?
I can't say.

2 Special Occ: Don Carlos #2 Torp, Hemingway Masterpiece or Canones Maddie
3.Overrated: since Opus X or Aston VSG are out..don't know...
4.Underrated: Chateau Fuente Royal Salute (SG or Maddie - yum) ....and of course, the Flor de Ybor City line (I really like those maddies, or the SG #85 or Belis)...best kept secret Fuente cigars.
They make a number of others I like as well: (Flor Fina 858 maddies, Gran Reserva Churchills (they make a real nice maddie and an interresting shade grown), etc), but these are the ones that fit the categories IMHO.

1 Everday fuente - NONE. Most stuff with the fuente name is not cheap in case you didn't notice.
2 Special occasion fuente - Hemminway signature, Fuente sungrown Cuban belicoso, Don carlos
3 Overrated - All of their cigars are overrated to some degree. The Gran reserve is the worst. How can a fuente produce a the gran reserve line is nowhere near as good as most toranos or padrons and still charge more for them? People are label whores.
4 Underrated Fuente - NONE. They are all overrated.

Everyday - None Special - Opus Overrated - Hemmingway Line Underrated - None
I don't think that Opus are overrated, I really like them. Now that doesn't mean that I'd pay the inflated prices, but my local shop sales them (when they have them) for pretty much retail, and I have no problem with that.

I totally agree. . .the 858 is def underrated in my eyes!
This is true, If I could find FFOX for retail, then I would hardly consider them overrrated.

How can you call the 858 underrated? It is the most popular size from the biggest selling cigar maker in the world despite the fact that it is overhyped and overpriced. That cigar is the definition of overrated.

The 858 is underated because all you ever hear about is the CFs in Sungrown and Maduro. But the 858 just as tasty a cigar and for the amount of tobacco you get, a much better value. Underrated does not mean that it's not a good seller. It simply means that it is so in comparison.

Enjoy, I still think it is an impossible claim to say that the flor fina is underrated. The fuente gran reserve line is crap. It only sells well because of name recognition, just like macadoodoos. Now theres an overrated cigar.

Everyday Fuente- Chateau Fuente Sungrown, with the Flor Fina 8-5-8 being second
The rest of the Fuentes in my opinion are over rated and way to expensive, and I agree with PMP. Why smoke a Fuente when anything that Carlos Torano makes is a little cheaper and a better smoke.
Given the choice between a Hemmingway Signature and a Torano 1916 Cameroon, I'll take the Torano 1916 thank you very much, simply because it tastes better.
I've tried the Opus X, a more over rated piece of crap you'll not find anywhere. I will not pay more for a Dominican cigar than I pay for a Cuban, it simply does not make sense to me.
Fuente=snob appeal, not taste
To me, if it wasn't for the Chateau Fuente, maybe a Hemmingway Signature once in awhile, the Cuesta Reys or the Montesinos, I wouldn't have a Fuente product in my humidors. But I do love the Cuesta Reys and Montesinos.
For the record, the Cuesta Rey Sungrown #60's or Pyramid #9s can be had discount for under $3.25 a stick, the Montesino's for under $4 a stick. The Chateau Fuente has an official list price of $3.50 per stick. Sometimes you can find the Chateau Fuente for under that, but rarely. Holts sometimes has walk in sales of $60 a box, but never for mail order. The Cuesta Rey is a better buy, as is the Montesino since you get more cigar for the money, and to me, a better taste.
