Looking for opinions on the JR Alternatives. If you've tried them, how closely do they compare with the real thing? What are you favorite JR Alternatives? Thanks.
They taste nothing like the real thing. The Alts to the cheap crap brands are close, but it's still better to just buy the real thing IMO. Can you smoke them, and not die? Yes. Will you really enjoy them? I can't.

The only things alts have in common with their counterparts are shapes and sizes.

some of these aren't too bad: cuban monte #2, hdm maduro's, and the presidents as mentioned above. lots of threads here about this subject if you want others opinion. if you're looking to save money, the flor de olivas maduro are a much better buy.

Prccaptain and Michealsean will NEVER say anything positive about JR Alternatives, and that's their opinion and right, but I happen to think more highly of them. As a "2 per day" smoker, I look to the Alt's to give me a "frugal" choice in smoking pleasure! (Hey Prccaptain and Michealsean, how's that for flowery prose!) I happen to like the Alt to the Ultimate in Maduro and the Hoyo in Maduro. I regularly by the Alt to the Ult.
Not meaning to "threadjack", but I also like the 5 packs very, very much. This way you can enjoy a name brand smoke and the Alt's for "not much money"!

I have smoked some JR Alts to Cubans. They are not as complx as the Cubans that they are alternatives for, but they are not a bad smoke for everyday smoking.

I think that is one of the biggest advantages of the JR alts. These are not a substitute for the real thing - in my opinion - and I don't think the Alts would ever be a go-to cigar. With that said, these are not "bad" cigars and provide a decent smoke for those times when you might not want to light the real thing.

Hello, I dont know about the JR Alternatives but, I have bought a lot of cigars from JR`s and one of the best smokes I have found and the price is also fantastic is the V.S.O.P. Double Carona. 75 for $75.00 WOW! This is a mild to medium smoke great flavor NO problems with construction, draw, or burn very enjoyable IMHO.
