I haven't been smoking for very long so if this is a dumb question please bare with me. This friend of mine and I have been having this running argument about to unwrap your cigars before putting them into your humidor or not. I unwrap them because I believe that they won't get proper humidification unless they are, nor will they properly age unless they are unwrapped, but my friend thinks I am wrong.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Either way is fine. It's been beaten to death on every cigar forum.

why not compromise and snip the excess plastic at the foot so the bottom of the cigar is exposed yet your wrapper is still protected. Problem solved.

The cello wrappers breath. If they didn't, there would be a lot of mold or dried cigar problems. They are there to protect the cigar. If the manufacturer puts on a cello, I leave it on.

I think most will tell you it doesn't matter. Cellophane though is semi-permeable, and does not pass air and water vapor very well.

I say leave 'em be. Cellophane adds a measure of protection from both swings in humidity and getting jostled around. It might slow the aging process slightly, but not enough to matter, IMO.

Take the cello off!

I was a firm believer of keeping the cello on until a few weeks ago. I had a bunch of Punch GC sitting in the cello right next to my humi device for a couple of months. When I decided to smoke one - it was bone dry! Meanwhile the Padron 3000 (also in the cello) right next to them were just fine.

If you keep your cigars in a humidor - there is nothing to protect the cigars from, but you run the risk to dry them out - so take it off. Correct me if I'm wrong, but most of the premium cigars come naked.

leave them because it is easier than taking it off. and it helps to keep you from breaking the wrapper.

I leave them on. It is preference.

I think a lot of "premium" cigars come with cello.

Loke Opus X, Ashton VSG, Davidoff,Zino, etc. I know there are some premiums that do not have it also though.

So it is just preference I think.

Gespinoza is right when he says it is a matter of preference. I take all of mine out of the cello. Why? I don't know. I always have from the first time I bought a cigar with the cellophane on it.

It is up to you.

Leave them on, even when you smoke. If they also have a cedar sleeve or ribbon its a extra bonus. The tubos are hard to light though . . .

In all seriousness its just what you prefer. The cello protects the cigar, but from what I read retards ageing. If you are buying for long term storage like Opus, take em off. If you are buying for a trip in 2 weeks leave em on for the extra protection. My 2 cents.

Same here. I think it's prettier.
