That's with shipping, it's the Toro, 6.25 x 48

I'm tempted to do it, last one in stock, should I wait for a better price? no one in town carries them

I've had one, it's not going to change your life or anything. If $40 is a lot of money to you, then I say screw it. If you light your cigars with $20 bills, then grab it.

well put, I have the money at the moment, and would like to have a couple to put away for a while. I was more wondering if that was a good price, but I guess if I'm balking at spending that much for one stick maybe I shouldn't

No cigar is worth 40 bones. Bide your time. At retail prices the Opus isn't too bad of a deal, especially if you are willing to sit on it for a few months or better yet years.

RX,

Forget that. Wait til the box pass comes around and grab one. I'm throwing a few in there. (Maybe not the toro, but a few other sizes.) It may be a good smoke, but it's not 40 dollars good. That's just usurious.

Also, it just might be the case that if you initiate that bombing run, someone else might get you back with one.

Just a guess, though.

holy crap, run far and fast. that price is a butt rape!! you shouldn't ever have given it a second thought!! save your money, even if it was the best smoke you've ever had, how many would you buy before you realize you're spending way to much for one cigar? you should get those for much less, or not at all.

that's pretty much the conclusion I've come to, plus I've found much better prices elsewhere (sold out of course)

RX,

When I was still in the frat I was passing out opus x... they are only $10-14 msrp.

they were 'i'm okay with it' at $10... at $40 i'd have punched a wall out of rage...

don't be fooled into the hype...it's almost like bose speakers - i'm still amazed people think they are good...

the ONLY way i could be cool with someone buying bose speakers is if there was a serious space issue and they needed small cubes in a bad way...

and still then there are better cubes for half the price...

HYPE HYPE HYPE... let the opus be smoked for $10... nothing more.

Just wait around, you're likely to find them for about $14 or so, what you should do is get in good w/ your local B&M, get to know them well, buy some stuff and when there's some rare smokes they'll set some back for you. I got Opus X, Anejo's (some for free) a whole box of VSG's (some people find it hard to get singles)PAM's, Tatuajes, etc. I don't even have to say anything, they know what I like, size and all, they'll set me some back. It feels pretty good to have that kind of relationship, I'll even help them out too, they let me know that it's been a slow day and they need to meet numbers, I'll buy cigars I didn't plan on getting until later..

FWIW I have about 20 Upus X now, perhaps I could part with one..

Well, I never paid the $40. I realized the lunacy soon after posting. However, if you would like to work out a trade or sale (pref a trade) let me know. my e-mail is in my profile, and plenty of folks around here can vouch for me.

If my B&M's (there's only two in town, both smallish) ever do have any opuses in stock, they keep them hidden. They're both authorized dealers though, so who knows, maybe I need to be nosier

I think that every serious cigar smoker should try an Opus at least once in their life. It has a totally different flavor profile that can be found in no other cigar in the world, IMHO. You'll either Love the flavor, or you'll wonder why you got caught up in all the Hype. Personally, I can never have enough Opus in the Humi.

Now, as far as paying $40.00 for one, I'd just as soon as stomp my toe in a door then do that. Wink Nice find on the Super Belis.

Opus a great cigar at $15 but I do not feel it warrants $40. I would lean towards a Graycliff or a Davidoff before an Opus.

The first Opus X I ever had was a big disappointment. The cigar was extremely young, and frankly terrible at that point. (And yes, I had given it a week in my own humidor to equalize). I almost threw the others I had gotten away, but I decided to let them sit in the humi for a while. Meanwhile, I started reading up on Opus X on various boards, and based on others' comments decided to give the sticks a try after six months.

What a difference. It would be hard to overstate how much better these were after some quality time alone.

Still, even at normal retail these are more expensive than many CCs, and for that reason while I will always have a dozen or so around, I don't find them to be a very good value. At $40 a stick they are ridiculous unless you just are hooked on their taste. Try a Partagas Lusitanias or Bolivar Belicosos Finos if you can get them.
