I picked up an Avo a few days ago and smoked it tonight. I'm a new cigar smoker, so I assumed I would like this cigar because it was supposed to be mild. Turned out, too mild!

I'm probably committing sacrilege here, but the only taste my unlearned palette could detect was burning tobacco. I don't know the exact make and model of the cigar, but it was approximately robusto in size.

I smoked a Cohiba black yesterday that was good and flavorful, though again I couldn't isolate any of the anise, charred wood and metal that it's reviewers noted. Anyway the Cohiba didn't have any of the odd aftertaste that the Avo had (sorry, I can't describe it), and was far more "peppery" for lack of a better term, especially on a long, hard draw from the smoker. I can't decide if I like that or not though.

I've never reviewed a cigar before and haven't smoked many of them. I was wondering if maybe you guys could give me some tips on how to pick up wood with a hint of nuts? Razz

Also after smoking the Avo and drinking water there was a distinct "soapy" taste in my mouth, what does this mean?

Don't laugh, that was literally in a Cigar Aficionado review a while back (though not for this cigar). That is near verbatim.
