Yup there are a bunch of reviews here. I can remember at least 3 threads about these cigars in the last 6-12 months.

So what is the consensus? My nephew just sent me a GOF Double Robusto "Carlito" 2005. Cute little box. How do they taste?

Agree with other DC poster. It seems these cigars are quite hard to find. I can get Opux, PAM, VSG etc but have yet to see GOF.

Are they worth the effort

Thanks

Another hyped up marketing ploy from the friendly folks at Fuente. This is yet another way to make a cigar more than it actually is. There are many, many better cigars out there; better than Opux X that cost less than $5-6 per stick. Opus has the branding and mystique surrounding it. Now they are going to do the same thing with God of Fire. Opus is nowhere near being classified as an end of life product but they need something in the wings to start building the cache of the brand. God of Fire seems to be just that. Mark my words, they will extend the Fuente brand within the next 2 years and Opus X will eventually be phased out within the next X numbers of years. Not yet mind you but definitely within the next 3-5 years.

Save your money and you will be able to buy 3-4 other cigars with the money you would have spent on one God of Fire stick.

good marketing for an overpriced crappy cigar.no taste, no complexety, good draw but that about it, you can also breath air, same satisfaction but cheaper

Thanks for the info...I'm glad it was a gift. I'll give it a try some day, or trade it to some unsuspecting dupe for something that actually is good.

I have four of them in my humidor and decided to smoke the robusto.
Considering that I'm a huge Opus X fan with a stash currently residing at 100+ sticks, I was really looking forward to lighting up this rare Fuente stick.
Disappointed is the word that come to my mind first. No taste, no flavor is right. But then again I smoked it following an Anejos.
Will eventually smoke the other 3 and won't wast my time looking for more.

Fuente only makes the cigars for God of Fire; they are two different companies with no ownership stake in each other. God of Fire will not replace OpusX. I imagine God of Fire pays hefty fees to Fuente not only for the cigars, but for the right to publicize the Fuente connection. So basically we're paying $25+ for $7 cigar with licensing fees and a second markup built in.

I currently have a the following God of Fire Cigars:
2004 God of Fire Anniversary by Carlito (Glass Tube).
2004 God of Fire Churchill by Carlito
2004 God of Fire Piramides by Carlito
2005 God of Fire by Carlito Double Robusto
2005 God of Fire by Don Carlos Robusto
I have heard good things about these cigars. That people have liked them. If its anything like an Opus they just get better with age. Try six years.

Actually, I am a swell guy. I'd trade this cigar in the same manner I would trade a bottle of "good" single malt scotch...can't stand the stuff...but I know others like it. I'd rather drink cod liver oil than scotch, and I'd trade scotch to an unsuspecting dupe who thinks it is good.

I agree with everything you say about scotch. If you hate it that much, you're OK in my book.

And if you like a good Kentucky Bourbon, you are OK by me. Wink
