Finishing up a sampler of this bad boy. Chisel tonight. Holy Moses! A strong stogie indeed. Probably my 3rd or 4th one. How does this compare to the Edge? Both are absolutely potent, no?

How do the DLs compare to the Opus X? I want to try one but it may not be my cup of tea. Partagas Black is my fav right now, but I really enjoyed the Patel 1992 recently. 1990 a but much for my taste, but it could have been place and time.

I can only stomach the DL with a snift of rum or some other rotgut! If I can handle the DL can I handle anything? What else is stronger that's considered good?

Matt

I have found the La Flor Ligero ( e.g. single ligero) less one-dimensional than the double. Opus is much more complex than either. One note, though: Opus really improves if you can stand to let them rest for at least six months.

Also, if you like the more powerful end of the spectrum, try the Ashton VSG line, which are strong but have much more balance than the Double Ligero. The Torpedo and Wizard 37 are excellent cigars.

Enjoy!

The La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero line is quite a bit stronger than the Rocky Patel Edge cigars. Both are great for anyone who likes very full bodied smokes.

Extremely strong cigars are definitely not my preference but I was able to enjoy this one pretty well. I'ts been a while since I was assaulted by an Edge so can't recall the details except the strength.

Thanks for the comments

There is a cigar out there, dunno who its made by, but known as the Triple Ligero.. but it only contains 3 strips of ligero leaf in there.. the LFD double ligero contains two entire ligero leaves in the filler.. now Placensia makes a really small cigar.. about the size of half of a pencil but bigger than a cigarillo.. known as the TKO its 100 ligero wrapper binder and filler.. that one will kick your ass from here to Topeka if you smoke it too fast..

IMHO the most powerful (full-bodied) cigar line going is Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970. I don't smoke them very often as I find them lacking complexity and finesse. I'd much prefer to smoke an Ashton VSG, Opus X, PAM, LFD factory press, or Tatuaje.

The triple Ligero is by K. Hansotia. Haven't tried it as of yet but it's a nice looking cigar with definite potential. I have a couple sitting in the humi getting back to reality from shipping. Just got a couple of Chisels gifted to me so I'll try those out here soon as well. Gettin ready for steak dinners and tale whoopins Big Grin

La Gloria Cubana Serie R is one stick you can give a shot. I like the #7 Maduro

Camacho has some rough and tough cigars, the SLR comes to mind.

The only non-LFD cigar that deserves to be mentioned in the same thread is the Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970. It kicked my ass...but if I want my ass kicked I prefer it to be one hot momma like the Chisel.

How about the "big guy"...the La Flor Domianica Double Ligero DL-700 (6 1/2" x 60). Has anyone tried this one?

I just bought 6 of these and have them in the humidor. But I think I will fire one up tomorrow night, as I can't wait to try this large size of the DL line.

Never tried the big guy, but I did try the "skinny guy" that double ligero lancero (7 1/2" x 39) and it was fantastic. I enjoyed it much more than the chisel. Def gonna pick up more of these.

Recieved a Box of the Double natural and a box of the Maduro yesterday and took care of one last night before my nightly walk with the wife. Easily my favorite $5-6.50 cigar.

I just received my order for a box of the La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero DL-700 (6 1/2" x 60). I had a few at the cigar shop, and what I like best is that it does not have the chisel shape. These are great, although HUGE and it is only for when you have lots of time. I had one from the box tonight, and put the balance in the humidor. Not sure how long they will stay there, as I could easily have one of these every day. I love the thick texture of the volumes of smoke. A great cigar, and I like this size and more normal shape.

I had my first LFDL on Friday and it was the DL-700. It was great, my most satisfying non-CC smoke in quite a while. While strong, there was no harshness whatsovever, which is more than I can say for many other smokes I have had (Drew Estate La Vieja Habana comes to mind). I liken it to a well-aged bourbon, which goes down real smooth. In fact, I smoked the LFD with a decent (not great) bourbon, to pair strength with strength. I primed myself for the experience with a delmonico steak. Look forward to smoking another one of these bad boys. They really look great and imposing, too.
