This is a new cigar that should be showing up in local stores any day. The Dallas stores just got em this week.

Tabacalera Tropical came up with this blend 3 years ago at the Nashville RTDA. They were using it for the hand rolleds at the show. But it knocked me out. I thought it was terrific and kept bugging Tropical to make it commercially available.

Well at the New Orleans RTDA they finally brought it out as JFR (Just For Retailers). They have limited the number of stores who will get it...so you may have to check around.

They came in and I bought some today. I got the corona gorda ($3.50) there is also a torp and a churchill (I think). They come in a box of 50, unbanded and look a little rough.

The foot seems almost unfinished and the head is a pigtail. The wrapper is a dark natural with lots of veins and oil. I clipped it and the draw was good. (Another friend got one and said it was a little tight...they just arrived in the store so could be a bit wet.) From the first puff...I knew it was the same cigar I had 3 years ago ( and in the intervening times I was able to get the extras from rolling demos).

This is a criollo/ corojo blend that almost seems cuban in its flavors. A great stick...look for em and you won't be disappointed....especially at the price.

Tabacalera Tropical, huh?

I'll be looking out for them alright ... after all, TT is the mark of excellence. Right?

It's up to you...to me it is a terrific smoke. Good construction and great flavor.

That would be surprising...TT isn't known for even 'good' construction usually, at least in my experience.

IT all depends on which stick you are buying...they make lots of cheap stuff that retailers can move...but overall I haven't had any problems with Tropical (since the ownership change).

Wow!!! This is a great cigar. Very dynamic profile and just enough spice to keep it interesting.

I had a Tabaculara JEM Toro Box Pressed a few weeks ago. This was given to me as a freebie for some cigars I bought online. It was a decent cigar but the construction wasn't the best. It was not filled very well an had burn issues the entire cigar. The flavor was pretty mild overall and the first third of the smoke was pretty much just like sucking air with no flavor.

That is not the JFR....they are not box-pressed and have a pigtail head. Their salamones are also terrific.

I'd have to agree that the parent company here is not known for a superior product. I mean, who are we kidding, they're not even know for a marginal product. But... the JFR's are phenominal. I got one at a local retailer when I bought some other cigars, salesman said I had to try it. I did. I was completely surprized and pleased. I now keep a stock of them on hand, along with my Montecristos, Primo Del Rays and Don Tomas'. Try them, you'll like them. They're really that good, not just for this particular manufacturer, but just plain good.

Anyone else notice the supporters of the cigar have one post?

"They're not real Cubans. They're Dominicans."
Yeah. I'm a little worried. When there's no work, and the
people get restless, who do you think they come after?... El Presidente!

the other 2 guys only had 1 post. It is kind of weird. But I trust you Mowee.

Question: Where can I get one to try, I'm pretty sure my local shop doesn't have one. I'm always up for something new.

I just like cigars, is that ok?

I'm new to this board..however I completely agree with your assessment of the JFR cigar. It is an outstanding smoke, medium to full body and near perfect draw. I picked up 50 for $4.25/ea. Since then, my friends have secured another 200 from the local shop. Football season just got a little better after finding this smoke. -Shark
