Even though I’m not a big fan of Dominican tobacco with the exception of Ashton and Arturo Fuentes, I ordered a five-pack of the Coronado By La Flor Corona Especial's today to try em out.
It seems everywhere I go I read something very positive about these smokes, not to mention they were the #2 smoke of 2006.

I absolutely love them. I actually just purchased a box of the Double Corona's. If it helps to make it more appealing to you Steve, the sun-grown wrapper is from Nicaragua.
My only advice would be to smoke these slowly. Stick to the puff a minute rule to maximize the flavors. The Double Corona's can last me 2+ hours and it is worth every minute.

KKL is dead on the money, these are some fine cigars but very potent if you smoke too fast. The flavors are so well balanced that you won't notice how strong it is until you try to get up and walk around afterwards. But yea you'll definitely enjoy these cigars. One of my all time favorites even if Cubans were all legal I'd still smoke these from time to time

Amen. I didn't enjoy my first few because I was just killing them. When I slowed down -- wow!
I tend to like the Double Corona and Corona Especial. Some of the other sizes are just too fat and I don't think those huge ring gauges do this blend any great favors.
Just this weekend, I smoked a Coronado Double Corona that had been in my humi for over a year. It was sublime. Full of deep flavors and very satisfying. I too just ordered a box. This might sound silly, but some cigars seem to have a hole in the flavor spectrum, but the La Flor Coronado has every possible "color" of flavors. Plus the luscious, thick smoke and perfect draw make this one of my absolute favorites.
As a side note, Litto Gomez was very amazing about giving away Coronados at the BS in Vegas. When I asked how he could justify the cost he replied, very simply, that he did not attribute its success to anything that he has done but by its popularity among US smokers; and in that respect the smokers who love it so deserve to have it as his give-away.

As all the others before me, I will also say it is wise to smoke them slowly, but as far as an unbelievably smooth and fairly complex smoke, I have a hard time finding much better...
I also happen to own a box, thats how much I enjoy the corona especial....
Ok, I am gonna have to revisit these. Last summer when I was just really getting into cigars I bought a box of these (DCs) for a lakehouse trip with buddies. They were just eh. They burned poorly and did not have a lot of smoke or flavor. Afterwards I had a few more and same result. Ended up trading most of them away to BOTLs on this board who gave me my first taste of cuban tobacco.
Now at that time I was not as properly equipped storage wise (beads)as I am now. I have one single DC left from last summer that has been very quietly sitting. Guess I better give it another shot. I really want to believe they will be great since every other LFD smoke I have had has been very good.
Smoked a Corona Especial tonight. A very impressive, well-made smoke that will definitely find its way into my rotation.
The power didn’t bother me at-all and I’m a puffer. The flavor profile is just so complex and pleasing, with an aroma that is just wonderful. The burn and draw were also perfect (right off the truck).
A box or two of these in the Corona Especial size are definitely in my future.
I give it at-least a 92. CA gave it a 93 for their "Best of 2006" #2 cigar rating.
