The other day when the Opus shipments hit, I ran down and made my selections. He had this nice little stack of metal tins of something special. I didn't look at the tin, I just purchased one. I still haven't looked at it, but its 3 cigars of some special something or other in a very nice black tin.
Anyhow, it occurred to me that perhaps this may not be as rare of an occurrence as I thought. Can anyone weigh in on if is common for AF to toss in small shipments of something interesting with the boxes of Opus to the retailers?
I am on the "call" list for Opus at my B&M, but I am sitting pretty good on my supply for a while. It is a real pain for me to run down there when the Opus comes in, but I will continue to do so if there is a chance he would have gotten some rare or a neat little something special from AF. I love little things like that.

My store, that always has Opus X, has been out of them for a few weeks, but the shipment is imminent. Are the sizes, or anything about them unusual, or just the packaging?
I like my single malts like my entendres, double, please.

My local shop never got anything interesting. Then one day the owner, who is a big Fuente fan, called a rep and said, "Hey, I always hear about all these cool cigars but I never get them." That year he got shipment in of a bunch of good stuff. He's never gotten a package like that before he says.
I just like cigars, is that ok?

I bought three tins of different sizes. I thought that these were a limited edition Opus X but after reading and talking to a couple cigar shops these turned out to be the regular releases, in tins with a $8.00 increase in price because of the tins. I've seen full tins go on ebay for over $100.00 and empty tins reaching about $20.00. By the way, this shipment of Opus taste a bit on the raw or young side. A couple months rest are highly recomended. IMHO.
I am smoking last years deliveries, so the age thing won't be an issue with me. Good to know they are specially raw this time. My shipments from 06 are very tasty right now. If I can keep this up, I will be able to maintain a year long or more rotation.
Too bad the tins aren't something special other than packaging. I'd still buy them since they will look nice on display, and I'll pull them out for a special occasion.

I found something interesting when i came home from the B&M yesterday... I bought a tin of Rubusto's just for the heck of it.. When i got home and unwrapped them (i take all my sticks out of the packaging), i noticed they were a different shade then my robustos from last year.. I mean, it was a good sized difference... The wrapper looked dull compared to the beautiful golden hue that the rest of my Opus' have...
Anybody else notice this? or is it just me? or maybe it was just an indifferent batch

Its a natural product grown in natural conditions and subject to a number of variables. I have a decades worth of Opus X in my humidor, and the cors vary widly.
If you have concerns about your retailer, you might have an issue, but most likely your just seeing natural variations.

..Any type of opus x product is usually on the "rare" side. Consider yourself lucky if you got some tins. Its all about supply and demand. People will be interested in these tins, and most likely the ones who couldnt get them will want them. As far as value, all depends what it is worth to you. If you are a collector than go for it. If you are looking for an investment or a quick buck, Im sure you can nearly double you money with any opus x product.

Chateau de la Fuente Rare Estate Reserve 1992 3 Extra Rare Cigars Birthplace of a Dream
on the reverse the tin says Chateau de la Fuente Rare Estate Reserve Reserva d'Chateau
The packaging is clearly intending to leave the impression that these cigars are something unique. I opened the tin to find the cigars wrapped in cedar and red banding. The smell is spectacular considering its only 3 cigars and some pressed metal.
You will notice the two different photos in the link I provided, well they are the same tin. One shot has the classic Fuente's in the field photo and other other has a simple Opus X logo with full red and gold vertical stripping.
I would have purchased more tins if I weren't buying a coupled boxes of Opus at that time. I now have 4 full or nearly full boxes of various sizes, and many various singles. I don't care what others say about this cigar, it is without equal in the non-Cuban world at MSRP with the same care and aging that is assumed with Cuban cigar smokers.
In a year from now I will find out how good these cigars are verses the competitive product.

The tins at my local sold out in two days. Smoked a Robusto from one of my tins yesterday and although it was very good a few more months in the humi will do wonders.
Unfortunately my local guy only got in like four boxes and he sold them off instantly, I was waiting on the shippment and was going to buy a box but missed the boat.
I have been popping in every week looking out for them. I was pretty pissed yesterday. I am searching for some other shops that are carrying them . I would love a box of #4s or robustos for the humidor.

See if your B&M keeps a "call" list. Mine does and I get there withing 2 hours of the call, and much of the product is already gone. It wouldn't hurt to ask...

Yes, you are right on the money there. I am going down to see my guy again in the morning and will definitely ask him if he can keep me posted for next time. Hmm,next batch will be along with the anejo. Around December I expect.
What a let down though, I was hoping to add a box, or atleast a half box to my stash before deploying. Hopefully I will have a shot at the next delivery.
Hello, as a nub since March I have known of the law that might be hitting. Can anyone help me please? Thanks, TAF

Gotta agree with you on that one the older the better.Thats why i don't buy them any more there a premium stick at a premium price who wants to hang on to it for years just to get a wiff.

Yeah, I have about 15 Opus' hanging out in my humidor for 10 months now and the Perfecxion No. 2s are just begging me to smoke them but I definitely don't want to hit them too soon. Any experienced Opus' smokers know when these start getting good? Doc? I smoked one at about 2 months old and didn't really get much out of it.
