I think that they have not been released yet, because they were featured in the latest JR catalog as a new item, and it says that they hope they are available at the time of publishing. I did not call to find out, but from what others have said I doubt they have shipped yet...but who knows.

They are in stock. I am waiting on my package to arrive either today or tommorrow. I will post my opinion on these cigars, as soon as I smoke few of them.

At least it is for me. I just just finished smoking a few of the Montecristo Afrique Uhuru. It is a 5X47 size vitola.
The constuction was very good. It was very well rolled. It didn't have the cut and finish of a habano, but since the cigars had a near perfect draw it isn't an issue. The cigar had a wrapper that was EMS and very oily with very fine teeth. They were very straight.
The burn was also very fine. The ash burned nearly staight with a dark gray ash. It was a firm ash as well.
As for the taste. It is very smooth and rich. The flavors were very subtle. It wasn't the open forward taste of a Padron or CAO. It more along the lines of a dominican or cuban. I had to concentrate on the flavors to getit. But the flavors were very complex. Just think of a dominican Partagas, that is super smooth with an unusual tea like quality added.
I really enjoy these cigars. I am placing another order for them in the same size. I recommend the Montecristo Afrique highly. I wish, I could just say they were bad. But I am not the sort of person, who only says that to better my chances at hoarding.
Also to add, they are subtle cigars. I don't think, that if I was a padron or CAO smoker, I would enjoy them very much.

I don't get it. I thought this was going to be a cigar with an African wrapper, like the Kette that is being put on the La Luna line. What gives with the EMS wrapper? By the way, nice review and excellent description of the Dominican Partagas.

It is a cameroon wrapper. Also the filler is african, with central american ligero. For me EMS is a color range, that is dark, but not quite moduro. EMS stands for English Market Selection.

Yes, I know, that's why I asked. I just didn't expect any African wrapper to qualify under the distinction EMS.

I'm now wondering, if I should have posted my findings about the Afrique. I just checked with J&R and the Uhuru and the corona vitola are out of stock. I'm a little disappointed that I couldn't get more. But more is on the way. Of course not at previous the deal package though. I hope this means for good things for African tobacco production. Well, I done at work time to go home and have a hump-day habano(BRC).

Phoenix: Thanks for the review. You described these as very similar to the Dominican Partagas; so are these fairly mild smokes then? Also, how would you rate them on the CA scale of 0-100. Thanks.

I actually disagree with the CA method of evaluating cigars, but it is the best method we have. I would give the Montecristo Afrique:
8 out of 10; for construction.
9 out of 10; for taste and flavor.
It is a medium bodied smoke.
10 out of 10; for sheer guts on marketing a new product. The cigar makers have to innovate with new flavors and textures. We can't just go along with the Cuban (fill in the blank) is the bench mark and compare all cigars to it.
Overall it is a good cigar. It is well worth the price. I am very confident in suggesting this cigar. I learned a little about African leaf from these. I will be excited to see any more future offerings with African filler.

great review. The first one I smoked really impressed me and it also had some punch to it. Thinking back, I smoked it on an empty stomach and enjoyed the taste and flavors so much that I smoked it too quickly. Second one I tried did not hit me like that. Great cigar.

It's starting to get pretty annoying. Try posting something NEW yourself if you're tired of the repetativeness and ignore the dups. Cello on or off is one thing, but get over it.
