Dear All,
This weekend a friend of mine gave me a Joya de Nicaragua Celebración (Corona). I like it, specially the first half, then my friend told me to choose one box of Joya de Nicaragua as a gift.
I guess he want me to quit Habanos or something, but the issue is that I dont know what is the best Joya de Nicaragua to choose...

What do you think? what should I pick?

Thanks in advance!

Xavier

Ive heard the Gran Consuls are the most powerful.

I smoked one the other night at the beach. It went out a couple times, but it seemed to be fairly powerful. It should be noted though I had a fair amount of liquor in me as well though.

Antano Lanceros. Excellent. Suckling says they remind him of old Cohiba Lanceros. I don't see the resemblance but it's certainly a compliment.

I used to love the Joya de Nicaragua Antaño 1970 Robusto Grande. Wonderful smoke!

So the Robustos and Lanceros top the list?
By that the Celebracion line is mediocre? or just the average?
Thanks!

I like the gran consuls too. Just don't over humidify them or they draw very poorly.

Celebracion is a milder version that was blended by Manuel Quesada of MATASA as an alternative to the Antano. Not a bad cigar -- in fact, it is claimed that only the wrapper is different -- but the Antano is bolder and more flavorful by virtue of its darker, oilier wrapper. The Lancero shows off that wrapper to great effect and, in my opinion, is the best of the line.

I really enjoy both the Antano and the Celebracion. From the Antano line I'd reccomend the Gran Consul, and from the Celebracion line definitely the Consul, followed by the Torpedo.

I smoked one of these again last night. It was a Gran Counsel. The last thre or four I have smoked have had a tight draw, and it was very difficult to enjoy the cigar. Although I enjoy the flavor the effort to smoke the cigar is not worth it. I don't think I'll be buying anymore of these.

The one I smoked had a tight draw as well. I think I got light headed from puffing.

I just like cigars, is that ok?

Just smoked my first Joya Antano 1970 which was a Robusto size. Have to admit I was pretty impressed. Some nice spice throughout and good full flavors. It did not knock me over as I expected but will definately have to grab some more.

Been thru a box of Lanceros, the peppery flavors will knock your socks off-if you can keep the cigar lit. Tried a couple of the Machito short coronas and the burn was better, but the taste was no where as strong as tbe Lancero.

I have a box of both and Im not at all impressed with the celebracion. the antano is strong when its young but give it 8-9 mo and it really is a pleasent cigar. really bold flavors but finese too. This is all in part if you can get the right burn. I noticed that these will burn too hot and do have lighting problems.

There is a really good article in "Cigar Press" magazine this month on the story of the Joya brand from inception in the 70s, during the revolution and war in the 80s and the re-birth of the brand in the 90s. They talk about how ownership of the brand changed hands several times and had decades of turbulance, but the workers kept producing cigars and never stopped. Now the brand is on top again with it's Antano and Celebracion lines, and with Dr. Alejandro Martinez Cuenca at the helm now. Good things ahead for this cigar company, that's for sure.

I don't think JDN is quite back to prewar quality, but they are getting closer. The Antano is my pick of this brand, however I think it depends too heavily on the wrapper, and lacks depth of body.
