I get a catalog from CI and it has all sorts of brands in it. I would imagine that catalogs from all of the online vendors would be about the same. I'm new to this and I don't know what to do. They have samplers. All sorts of samplers, but I don't know where to start. I like a mild to medium smoke with an easy draw, sweet mellow flavor and no harshness at the end or anywhere else. There are just too many choices that I am going insane. I want to buy some good smokes, but I don't want to waste my hard earned medicare moola on junk that I know is out there. Hep me. Hep me. Pleeze.

I would say to start out with a light, easy, smooth, coffee noted cigar. I would suggest to smoke an Oliva Serie O or G. They are both good.

Check CI daily deal. They have a medium body La Cuna something for 17.99 for 10. Free shipping. Add on some 5 packs to sample or get the sampler you want.

Too many samplers are backloaded with junk/hard to move cigars. If I were you, I would stick with five packs from Oliva, Arturo Fuente, Padron, and Pepin Garcia to start. At least you will get quality cigars. When you learn your preferred flavor profile, you can branch out.

5 Vegas Gold is a good mild smoke. I'd also recommend the Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real as well. Also, I'd sign up for the Holt's catalog as it is put together really well and does feature great smokes by Ashton, Arturo Fuente, Don Pepin Garcia, and Padron among others. They also have a lot of samplers to buy. Lastly, I recommend finding a good b&m and getting recommendations.

Sounds like a pretty nice problem to have!

Actually Chumley you're in the same position that we all were in at one time.

I've always said that trying new cigars all of the time is part of the allure of our hobby.

I've been off the White Owls for close to 6 years now and I still look forward to trying a new cigar for the 1st time.

I recomend you stick with the samplers. After awhile you'll learn what you like and dislike and you can take it from there.

Another great place to try is FAMOUS SMOKE. They have good samplers, five packs, and singles to try.

Good Luck and Welcome!

Something else to try is Cigarbid. Often just refered to around here as C-bid. They are owned by CI. You can bid on samplers and 5 packs of numerous brands. Just be REALLY careful to know what the going price is on the cigars you are bidding on or you might pay more than the are really worth. Some times you can get stuff for 50-75% of MSRP. This can also be an addictive way to buy. But you do save money.

I agree that alot of the time that the JR's or Holt's of the world will load up a bunch of crap that you never heard of or never would smoke into some of their samplers. I've bought some where 3 of the 5 where great sticks and the other 2 were dog rockets, making your cost per smokeable stick higher than the cost of buying it at a B&M.

Here's just a few examples from Cbid.
Torano
D. Pepin Garcia
Padron

Good Luck.

I'd recommend that first!

Chumley, being new to cigars, I would recommend staying away from the online orders at first, because usually, those cigars need a little "resting period" in your humidor before you smoke them. If you have already set up a humidor, by all means, order from the Internet, let them sit for a few days, and light up, but if not, it's better to pick up a stick from a local cigar shop.

Thanks very much guys. I have got some catalogs and am going to order something today. Maybe even some of each of what y'all suggested.
I really appreciate the suggestions.

chumley,

Welcome to the world of cigars. I'm new too. One thing I did was found a "good" cigar shop, told em what I wanted and they showed me what they had. You're gonna find some that knock your socks off, then you're gonna find some you will remember not to get. It's definately trial and error. Second, CI is a great place to do business. Good samplers, reasonable prices. But like the others have said, they'll need to rest a bit when you get em.

Sounds like your a perfect candidate for the Oliva G Cameroon. Perfect draw, loads of mellow smoke and a rich sweet Cameroon wrapper. Great price on these cigars to boot.
