Was out today to pick somethings up and stopped to get a bottle of wine when I came upon a bottle of port. I've always heard a good port is great match with a cigar but have never really seen one until now. I did a search on ports and this type was never mentioned, so if anyone has tried this please let me know what they think.

Chateau Reynella, Old Cave "Fine Old Tawny Port" Okay..i'm an idiot I just realized the Tawny part...could someone help out the stupid kid and explain what a "Tawny" port is and the different kinds?

Okay, i'll go grab the dunce cap and sit in the corner.

Thanks

As I understand it, tawny and ruby are lower quality than vintage. You want to get a nice vintage port and age it for 10 or 20 years. You can also get some cheaper port that is aged by the vinter and ready to drink now but it is of lower quality than a fine aged vintage port. That is my understanding although compared to some of the people on here I admittedly don't know jack about wine.

Hard work may pay off eventually but laziness always pays off now.

Port is either bottle aged or cask aged. The bottle aged keeps its color and fruitiness. The cask aged loses color becoming TAWNY in color - aged in wood then filtered and bottled. Tawny is best consumed now. Bottled aged can be consumed after further aging.
