I need suggestions and or recipes for making a great turkey. I have never attempted to make one before. Mom has always done it and this year I volunteered to do it and bring it over. I know this should be relatively simple as long as I go about it the right way and prepare the bird properly. Any tips or ideas on the basics of doing a turkey would be greatly appreciated.........thanks and Happy Thanksgiving Big Grin

James-Go to foodtv.com. They have been running dozens of methods for cooking a turkey. One of them should fit the bill. Good luck and have a great t-day.

check the actual temp of your oven and make sure to get a bird with a popping timer and you'll be fine

1) Follow the instruction on the wrapper.
B) Buy a turkey baster. (the thing that looks like a giant eyedropper)
3) Take a pint of Apple juice and squirt it, in many locations, under the skin. Let it soak in overnight.
D) Stuff whole carrots, celery, onions inside the turkey. Salt and pepper everything. About every half hour baste the turkey with the juice in the bottom of the pan.
5) Cook it slowly at the recommended temp and watch for the red plunger to pop up. When it does:
F) Lay thick strips of bacon over the turkey until they are crisp.

And you are done.
