I have drank many very good ales, Black Sheep being a fave of mine. Timothy Taylors Landlord is very good,Yorkshire Relish is also a good ale but only available from the cask. Tetleys and John Smiths are also very good and i find that if Sam Smiths is kept well its a very good pint and cheap to. (£1.20)
Spitfire is another good one so is Green King IPA.

Moreland's Old Speckled Hen is wonderful. Has almost an apple-spice flavor.

Good to hear so many people are fans of Speckled Hen. If you can get any then bottled conditioned Hen's Tooth (also brewed by Green King using the old Morland name) is brilliant.

I was in a pub this evening when i noticed they were selling SA Oktoberfest, which many of you had recommended. Unfortunately i have to say I was unimpressed. It was far far too sweet for my taste. It reminded me of german and czech dark beers, which are very rich, sweet and cloying. No way I could drink more than a pint of it at a time, without needing to switch to something more 'bitter'. Its probably just a result of being brought up on strong earthy ales tho - each to their own.

A good question D-Mud. I believe I remeber you extolling the virtues of the Eagle's heated outside courtyard for a cigar a few weeks back. The reason I tended to drink in the Eagle was that it was one of the few places in the centre that always had Speckled Hen on tap, tho this may have changed. Get yourself there.

guess where I am going tonight for our post-game pint and cigar

(I am the captain of Hughes Hall basketball team, we have a game today against the Peterhouse/Christ)

I also leave a stone's drop from Panton Arms, some good ales there too and a heated space as well.

Good stuff, enjoy it. And good luck in the basketball.

just to let you know, we trashed them by 20! Wink I did not go out as the missus had dinner prepared, but I smoked a Davidoff Robusto Millenium Blend, paired with a glass of Arran single malt. The cigar was a bit of a disappointment, will post more on the review section tomorrow.

haven't found which cigar goes well with Lienykugals (sp) sunset wheat. hints of orange, may be tough to find. To bad to because that's a great beer.

I like English beer with a Hemmingway.

I'm quite a big fan of it, my father used to drink hundreds of those little stubby bottles.

Flash- don't be expecting bitter, despite the name- it's a lager. A good one certainly, but pipped by Boag's as my choice of Aussie lagers

Youngs stout went well with a VSG I smoked a few weeks ago.

I don't think anyone has mentioned it, but I have really been onto a Boddingtons kick lately. I really like the low carbonation and creamyness. Yet to pair with a cigar that may be today's activity.

Didn't see it mentioned but in addition to some mentioned, I like Hobgoblin. Haven't tried my Young's Chocolate Stout yet but I'm thinking about pairing it with a Padilla or DPG. Any suggestions of which one. Haven't had either yet. Purchased some Padilla Habano's, 68's and DPG blue as well as the black label.
