Although a glass is a glass I know that companies like Ridel make glasses for just about everything from apple juice to Zima.

A few years ago my wife and I visited Waterford Ireland and the Waterford Crystal factory.

I purchased several various glasses.

I have 3 crystal brandy snifters (I had 4, but one broke while being washed)

1 very classy Martini Glass (The cat and I broke the other one)

4-beautiful wine classes.

4- On the Rocks Glasses.

4- Champagne Flutes.

4- Highball Glasses

4- Old Fashond glasses.

4- Port Pipes. (tried it that way once...That was enough)

2- Ouisky glasses from Scotland in green crystal.

2- Swarvosky crystal shot glasses.

a few assorted crystal wine glasses.

1 very old (Pre WWII) Schlitz beer glass

and an assortment of other fancy glasses.

I enjoy drinking liquor from expensive glasses. It makes me feel like Thurston Howell III

I have a set of six crystal Brandy snifters that I use for brandy and Cognac

I have a set of six champagne flutes (don't ask me why, they were a gift)

A whole hodge podge of mixed rocks glasses and beef glasses that I've collected over the last few decades..other than these, I don't get fancy with anything. I still like my beer and moonshine in a chilled mason jar

My wife and I hit the same little shop, I'll never forget the carry-on and the longest walk in an airport I have ever seen.

All of my Brandy snifters are from Various hotels & watering holes, when I order room service I know I will get a fine crystal snifter , get my heavy weight cigar ashtrys the same way , we have a few sets of crystal glasses from our wedding 35 years ago, we use them every day, , a few have been broke over the years but I still have all the rocks glasses & juice glasses , I think we are missing a few of the tumblers & one of the ice tea tall boys , the wine glasses are missing a few but they dont get used much, I just sip scotch or port & I use the snifters for the scotch & a espresso cup for the port , not classy but it works for me ! Enjoy, Vince

The biggest one that's clean.

Nothing like an iced-tea glass of port!

A good cigar and a good drink on the back deck by the lake...if that doesn't make you relax, nothing will!

I have a nice collection of beer mugs from Bike Week/Daytona - Iron Horse Saloon (I always pick one up for every year I'm there - the last 17 years)

....each was purchased with a "between 4-7 all fill-ups are Free" option...They paid for themselves many times over. (BURP) Razz

Made of the finest Polycarbonate Plastic.
Cool

I have a full bar set of Waterford glasses that I'm able to get through my job very cheap. Everything from DOF's to Large Balloon wine glasses. If anyone ever has any questions about crystal glasses (Waterford, Lenox etc.) or just about any upper end home product, just post it and I can answer them, goes with the territory.

I recently made myself a martini and tried in in a regular glass, on the rocks, and stirred, not shaken. It really does lose something.

I've also foubd that you realy do need to serve a drink in the proper glass. Some of it is probably just psychosomatic but it does make a difference.

I drink more wine than anything else and I did a test a while back. With the exact same bottle of wine, I asked different people to close their eyes and I served them the exact same bottle of wine (red) in a really nice baloon glass and in a cheapo one with no real bowl. Every one of them thought they were drinking 2 different bottles of wine when it was the very same one. I even did it myself and - psychosomatic or not - it seemed to taste very different. At least with wine - and I can't speak to anything else - the glass makes a big difference.

I agree Andy. Besides the wine or beer you are serving. It's all about presentation. We have something called a Belgium Tower. It's a draft tower that only presents three belgium beers. Stella, Hoegaarden, & Abbey De leffe. And those brands are poured into their respective glassware. Goes something like this; you take the glass, hold over a little jet stream of water that shoots inside the glass and chills it. You pour the beer. Then you take a "foam" knife to cut down the head of the beer to the top of the rim. Finally you present the draught with the label of the glass to the customer and there you have it! You'd be surprised at the reaction when a great bar tender uses one of these. All in all it's a pretty classy act. Wink

Right on, James. When you have a great product, presentation can add even more.

James, that sounds amazing. I'd love to walk into a bar and get a drink served like that. It takes something simple and turns it into an experience.

Your absolutly right Smokie. Not only is the customer who is ordering the beer impressed, but the guy next to him goes, "let me try one of those." Smile

I'm more of a beer drinker than anything. And being a Chicago kind of guy what better than a nice cold Old Style in a Bears pilsner glass...

msaJeff,

I couldn't agree more. However, at this time of year, a Special Export in a Cubs pilsner glass isn't a bad thing either.

I am a Chicago kind of guy too!
