I will be there the end of this month for 10 days sort of a business pleasure trip.I plan on going across the border and checking out the LCDH.Any good places in San Diego to enjoy a good dry aged steak and some drinks,any suggestions on things i should see do etc. Thanks

I live here in San Diego, which is a fairly cigar-friendly city. A very good cigar/wine bar in the downtown/Gaslamp area is Cesar's Wine & Cigars (not too far from the Convention Center and Petcom Park). Their cigar selection is OK but not great (they will let you bring your owne, i.e. LCDH, as long as you support their liquor license) but you can smoke indoors or on their nice patio overlooking popular 5th Avenue.

Another good cigar bar is Churchill's in the Old Town section of San Diego (about 10 minutes north of downtown, near the airport and Seaworld). Their cigar selection is quite a bit more extensive than Cesar's and they also serve beer and wine.

As for steak, Donovan's in La Jolla is probably as good as you will get here in San Diego (however, it is no Peter Luger). Many restaurants here in SD seem to specialize in flatiron cuts (the cut I recommend, as you will not be disappointed....save the porterhouse, NY strip, and ribeyes for when you are back in NY). That being said, there is a real cool and trendy JRDN restaurant inside the Tower 23 Hotel in Pacific Beach (home of the young and beautiful coeds) that serves up a real good flatiron. Very extensive wine list and it overlooks the ocean).

If you tell me more about your age and what you're looking for, I can help you out (i.e. you're early 30's, single, looking to smoke and drink amongst eye candy vs. 40's married with kids and want to chill).

I am closer to 50 than 40 i am an old pervert at heart always looking for eye candy as they say.The wife is very understanding you know look but don't touch.We are both social people and enjoy good food wine conversation etc.I guess in all honesty i would have to say a couple of nights with the younger crowd and then a few chill in is our idea of a great vacation.We do search for the fine things in life our children are all grown up with families of there own.What i am trying to say is we are not on a budget or anything and don't mind spending to have a good time. For chill (and with the wife), nothing like having a cigar and cocktail at sunset on the outdoor patio of the Hotel del Coronado. They sell a limited selection (probably expensive). Another good suggestion would be Sunday afternoon/early evening at Del Mar Plaza. There is free jazz right in front of Il Fornaio restaurant and you can grab a rooftop patio table overlooking the Pacific (bit of a pretentious crowd, but enjoy the view and good music).

For eye candy, the place to be is the rooftop bar of the new Ivy Hotel in downtown San Diego (think along the lines of Hotel Gansevoort in the Meatpacking district). Best to be here on a Friday or Saturday night prior to 9PM so you avoid the $20 cover charge and can enjoy your cigar before the place gets packed at 10PM; You can also try one of the 5 or 6 outdoor, patio tables at Pascuale's Italian restaurant (decent Italian food--especially the bone in veal chop) on Prospect in the Village of La Jolla....finally, speaking of Del Mar above and where the turf meets the surf, the beautiful racetrack opens for the season next Wednesday, July 18th--nothing like catching a couple of races and enjoying a cigar.

Finally, when you do make it down to LCDH I am certain Mr. Moises and staff (Hip Hip Jorge and Luis) will take excellent care of you).

Hey thanks much for your help i will try to visit all the places you have suggested.

Hotel Coronado has a nice bar and outside area where you can see the Naval Base if you like looking at ships.

5t used to be cigar friendly.

Once again allow me to thank all of you that replied to my request for help.I have been poking my head in and out of this forum for about 5 years now just signed up a couple of days ago.Nice to see a couple of members who have been here a while take the time to help a newbie.I will take all your suggestions into consideration once again i thank you all.
