I'll say once more what I have stipulated on another beer thread on this forum : the best beer with a cigar is an austrian beer called "Samichlaus Bier" (Santa Claus Beer). Very complex, very savoury, very 14% alcohol!
Try it if you can get it!

Although I didn't smoke a cigar with this beer (because of bad Canadian smoking laws) I had to mention this brew anyway. Drank it last night with supper, hoogaarden white beer. Give it a try, one of my favorites now.

Must narrow focus, too many heavy cigars that would over power mild beers and too many full bodied beers which would do the same to too mild of a smoke! With that said, in summertime I've enjoyed beers as light as Corona with something like a dominican Montecristo Corona, Montesino Aged Cabinet Belicoso, Davidoff Anniversario or even an ISOM creamy Cohiba Robusto. In winter its something like Bass Ale, Sam Adams Black or Honey Porter, or any number of darker beers with my Bolivar Petite Coronas or Royal Coronas, Montecristo No 2s, or most any fuller bodied cigar...

Persoanlly, I love beer but usually dont drink stouts. However, i'm a big fan of a nice smooth stout with a cigar. I typically smoke a medium bodied cigar like a monte critso double claro with it asnd it is oh so good.
The Beergeek that I am, usually I will not smoke and have a beer at the same time. The cigar flavours will overpower the flavours of the beer, and you will not be able to fully appreciate the potential of the beer.
saying that, I had a "Saison" with a small cigarillo earlier
Just go to ratebeer dot com and select any of the top 50 beers. All will go great with a cigar. I prefer Belgian Ales, such as Chimay (Red/Blue), Orval, Rochefort 8 or 10, and Liefmans.
In the US you have a much better selection of great heavy local beers. Speedway and Three Floyds are a few that come to mind. In Canada our heavy beer selection truly sucks.

Steve

I do enjoy a lot of different beers, but when it comes down to it there is nothing better than the KING. BUDWEISER
"Cuban seed tobaccos grown in Nicaragua and Cuba. The wrapper would be from Cuba. The binder leaves would be from Nicaragua. For the ligero tobacco in the filler, he would use two types, one from Esteli and the other from Jalapa in Nicaragua. The other filler components, seco and viso, would come from Cuba, the former from Villa Clara, the latter from Pinar del Rio. That Cigar, he says with pride, would score 100 points." -Don Pepin Garcia

Which reminds me of what British comic John Cleese had to say on the subject... It comes near the end, just below, an excerpt from a rant on Americans...
"The cold tasteless stuff you insist on calling beer is not actually beer at all, it is lager. From November 1st only proper British Bitter will be referred to as “beer”, and European brews of known and accepted provenance will be referred to as “Lager”. The substances formerly known as “American Beer” will henceforth be referred to as “Near-Frozen Knat’s Urine”, with the exception of the product of the American Budweiser company whose product will be referred to as “Weak Near-Frozen Knat’s Urine”. This will allow true Budweiser (as manufactured for the last 1000 years in Pilsen, Czech Republic) to be sold without risk of confusion."

I'm only suggesting and speculating here, but I'd say that dos equis xx is the best with a medium to full bodied cigar. Something abit bolder, perhaps a porter or a good stout would be better with a milder cigar.

In my neck of the woods Budweiser is affectionetly known as "Budwater" and I tend to agree.

Panter is the best-selling cigar in the world. That doesn't make it a good cigar...
But I respect your taste for Bud. As you say : to each is own...

I love Dos Equis
