I'm going to finish what the legendary Eddiej started...
Seriously, I'm going to Montreal for a bachelor party 1/21 - 1/23. I've only heard great things about price gouging by the LCDH's. My question: do I bring cigars along for the ride? Or do I just go and fall into financial ruin by going to the nearest LCDH or a Davidoff to celebrate this momentous occasion? I'm not familiar with customs.
Thanks for your help everyone.

Tax avoidance is the only issue you would have going into Canada, not Cubans. When I drove in from Maine back in August, I was asked by Canadian customs if I had any liquour. Coming out, you must hide your contraband CC. A shame if you bring CC into Canada to avoid the high prices and then get nabbed coming back to US with surplus gars. If yer flying, you can buy some Davidoff duty free at LGA, NWK or JFK and avoid the whole tax and smuggling issue. 4 pack of Davy MR Robustos is about $50 at NWK. Price of a single CoRo in Canada is about $30. Don't know where they draw the line on amount of smokes going into Canada before they get all taxy on ya.
The risk of kicking butt is you get some crap on your shoe
Well, if I bring cigars (C or NC) with me into Canada, nothing will be left behind. =) I am also not sure yet if I'm driving or flying in yet. Thanks for the input.

You should go to the Oh Canada thread in C&CC. They'll know how many you can bring in. Seems every Canuck vacations in Cuba and brings boxes back, so there must be a liberal amount allowed into the country duty free.
Peace.

US citizens can bring tobaco products into Canada with them for their own use,you won't get hassled for a box of cigars. Canadian are allowed 5o cigars duty free, per adult after 48 hours out of the country. We are also permitted to import up to 200 cigars without a licence, subject to duties and taxes, which are quite high.

I'm flying into Montreal, so I may take in a few NC's in my bag to smoke. I will pick up some at the airport duty free and check out the LCDH and Davidoff.

It's not worth buying Cubans in Canada. The government taxes them insanely. Perhaps if you want to enjoy one -- go to the LCDH or Davidoff on Sherbrooke. Nice people there, good environment and good stock.
One person may bring 50 cigars into Canada.
If you're going to Montreal for a bachelor party, I recommend dinner at Magnans. Here's the website:
It's a tavern that only began to admit women 10 years ago. (I would also recommend a little spot called Solid Gold on St. Laurent north of Jean Talon -- it's Montreal's premier gentleman's club. Tell them it's a bachelor party.)
Thanks, Swisher. I didn't plan on bringing in more than a handful (I figure I'll smoke 3 or so a night). Hopefully I'll have good news to report on Monday.

I decided to look through my humidor and brought nine Partagas Shorts with me. What a great decision. I whipped them out for the first night in downtown Montreal and smoked them in "Shea Paree". Nice birds (although no contact, they dance on stools) and good smokes.
I ended up getting stuck and extra day due to the snowstorm in NY. So I walked around (I should have looked up the Davidoff and LCDH) and saw some Tablac's? I bought a RyJ #3 for the 14 Canadian. Knowing the US prices, this was a wallet raping. Oh well.
In general, downtown Montreal's strip clubs were pretty crazy (the seedy ones). I sure as hell won't be buying cigars from Canada.
