Both are very good. Ben Benson's in my opinion is better. Up until last year Ben Benson's allowed cigar smoking at thier outside seating area. Boy I was disappointed when last year I was told they no longer allow cigars. It was one of my favorite summer time things to do. A steak dinner, Wine, scotch and a cigar. All without leaving your table Total bummer.

They still let you smoke at their outdoor seating at Rothmann's Steakhouse over on 54th and Madison. And right across the street from Davidoff of Geneva. Convenient. I personally am not a fan of sidewalk dining myself, but many people seem to love it.

Thanks Gregory, I have not been to Rothmans. I agree with you on outside dining. I tell my girlfriend if you have seen one sidewalk you've seen them all. She does love it though and looks forward to it all winter so........... I can't tell you how many time we eat outside and when I go in to use the restroom I say to myself, I have to remember this place come winter.

Best steak house I've been to, would have tobe "Nancy Hands", located just North of the West end of the "Red Line". Get off the train at the station, walk cross the river, turn left, and walk up the hill on the right side of the road. Its about 3/4th of the way to the top of the hill. We ate down stairs a couple of times, but I like the service upstairs better....

Ruth's Chris and Del Frisco's both originated in New Orleans and you can't find a better steak anywhere than those two. Back in the day before Ruth Fertel bought the restaurant when it was called Chris's Steak House, they served a Filet that looked more like a small tenderloin roast than a steak, it was huge. The orignal on Broad Street was a meeting place of the power elite in NO. Broad street had other steak houses like Crescent City Steak which was also great. Add in Morton's of Chicago and Smith & Wollenskey and you've got steak alley. Any of them are great, I really have no favorite. Sullivan's is also pretty good.
There's a place in Vegas (never been) that claims to be the best in the world, not sure of the name, but they dry age their beef for a month before serving. This is what sets them apart, so much flavor. BTW, I prefer my steaks grilled and not broiled, but many of them broil their steaks, then add a mound of butter when serving.

Unless the ones in New Orleans are much better than the rest of their respective chains, those two good but not all that special.
I personally put Del Frisco's in a separate category than Ruth's Chris. Been going to Del Frisco's before it was really a chain, but only 2-3 locations. Then it was bought out, and the expansion exploded. As far as the New York location is concerned, the quality is still there and the steaks still distinct, unique, the sides still interesting. Ruth's Chris feels and tastes more like a corporate formula...a corporation's idea of what an upscale steakhouse is. Same with Capitalle Grille. Another corporate formula taken to an almost caricature level. A new Philly location of Del Frisco's just recently inhabited an old bank space. I have not been there, but some of the photos are quite stunning. Anyone been?
Having already stated my preference for Luger (and, recently, Wolfgangs), a truly great steakhouse that is consistently excellent is the Metropolitan Grill in Seattle. Their NY strip is always very good and, IMHO, this place certainly ranks right up there or is the best West Coast steakhouse.
