Cognac is a good drink, but if you would like a warm relaxing drink without the sticker shock try a Port. I like the Sandeman's Founder's Reserve. Whichever you buy, buy only a product of Portugal. Do not buy Californian Port, nowhere near the taste.

AlexU.
Being not much of a fan of Hennessy or Courvoisier myself, I found your post enlightening as it opened my mind to the possibilities of some other lesser-known but more authentic brands that you mentioned. I've found them online and plan to try them out at the soonest opportunity. Thank you.

NCCigar,
If you find “Gabriel & Andreu. Fins Bois” to be noteworthy, try to “promote” yourself to “Gabriel & Andreu. Borderies” (15 yrs) and after - “Gabriel & Andreu. Petite Champagne” (25 yrs). Do not try “Gabriel & Andreu. Grande Champagne” (35 yrs). It does not worth.

AlexU and all interested,

Found a couple sites relating to cognac. One briefly explains the orogins while the other offers a price list and description of each type offered. Not endorsing either site, but looks like some good info that expands on this topic. Thanks. http://www.landmarkwinesake.com/cognac_armagnac.html http://www.sendliquor.com/list39category.html

NCCigars, I'm sure you ment well. the first link is interesting but very limited information - there is a lot more interesting info to learn about the history and the making of cognac. The Second link is way overpriced - just a few examples:
HINE RARE & DELICATE V.S.O.P COGNAC 750ML -$98 - else where - $40
HINE ANTIQUE COGNAC 750ML -$198 - else where - $80

HENNESSY "VSOP" -$80 - else where - $40

HENNESSY "XO" -$198 - else where - $120

Hennessy "Paradise" -$438 - else where - $260

MARTELL XO -$260 - else where - $130

Just my 2c.
Happy New Year to you all!!!!

Hey RDUBB. I hate to confuss you even more but I think you should try the Alchemist Armagnac 14 years old. Everything else pales.
