I'm a huge fan of HC rum. My favorites are the Anejo Reserva and the 7 anos. Has anyone had the Barrel Strength rum? If so, what are your impressions and do you know what the price is for the rum in your country?

I bought a 700 ml bottle in Cuba and almost drank the whole thing over the course of a week. Bought 2 liters on the way back home, and then got my wife to buy 2 more liters when she went back with her mother.

Very good rum for the price ($25US for 700 ml, and $32 for 1 liter). Smooth and tasty, and very drinkable straight up. Better than 7 year old, and slightly higher alcohol at 45%. Rated 92 by Tastings.com

92 • Havana Club Barrelproof Cuban Rum $40/L.
Pale amber color. Smoky, fruit pie, toasted pecan, and spice aromas. A round, buoyant entry leads to a dryish medium-to full-bodied palate with dark caramel, dried autumn fruit, sweet tobacco, apple cider, cane juice, charred wood, and peppery brown spices. Finishes with a long fade of smoky wood spice, exotic peppercorns, and caramelized fruit. Remarkably flavorful and balanced. Try with a touch of spring water. (tasted on Jun-10-2004)

Another good rum is the Mount Gay Extra Old, which is very reasonably priced at $30US. If you want to spend $90 US and try one of the best rums on the planet, 15 year old Havana Club will not disappoint you.

Regards,

Steve

preferred the 7 year myself, which was smoother. although I may have been a bit jaded by the time i got round to sampling the 45% stuff.
the barrel select almost needed a touch of water to take off the edge, but i may have been missing the point.
