i love the stuff, tastes sweet and sour and will give you a kick. goes well with liquor too depending on what you mix it with. vodka and jagermeister are pretty good mixers with it.
I've seen this in the stores for the past couple of years, but would always think of the time I took no-doze in college and my mind was totally fu cked up. Also I knew it had lots of sugar which gives me headaches and didn't want worse consequences that I get from drinking coffee.
I was reading about the Austrian man who marketed it and decided to try it the next time I was about to fall asleep in the middle of the day. That time came yesterday when I was at the store, around 6 pm. They even had a sugar-free model, so I tried that.
Great results! It woke me up, without the headache or other consequences that I'd get from coffee. I felt the "crash" around 9:30 or so, but that was ok since it was tome to go to sleep. I don't know what the crash would be like if I drank it in the morning.
The taste was weird and grainy -- not something I'd drink for the taste, just for the effects. After one experience, I'd give it a 10 (for effects, not taste) conditioned on further trials.

People aren't smoking cigars to be trendy, cool or stylish. They're smoking cigars because they like them. Because they enjoy the experience. Because for about $5 they can spend an hour sampling one of life's greatest luxuries. -David Savona

There was an interesting article on cnn.com a few weeks ago about the brain behind Red Bull. It is the Austrian guy Saul was talking about (I think). Apparently it is based on an Asian energy elixir he found on a business trip there. I know that it was marketed very successfully all over Europe and has recently taken off here in the States. If I am not mistaken the version sold in Europe is of a different make-up and has more of the stuff (as they put it in the comemrcials) that "gives you wings". I have heard horror stories of club kids in London pounding down a dozen Red Bull and Vodkas and have heart palpitations not dissimilar to a cocaine overdose. That said, a Red Bull and Vodka is a great way to catch a second wind for a late night out. Try it with Stoli Ohranj.

Yeah, I was reading about him in a book about the unification of Europe. It said that he was a toothpaste salesman with his territory in SE Asia, and he'd always have jet lag. He noticed that the taxi drivers would drink this stuff that they called "red water buffalo." He tried it and liked it, and the rest is history.
I also read yesterday that people have died from combining too much of it with too much alcohol, and from drinking it when they were dehydrated after sports (not its intent).

Its great stuff. BUT the only way to find out if you like it is to buy a can and try it for yourself. I think youll be happy with it. I personally drink it in the morning in place of coffee for two reasons I dont have to make a stop in the morning and it doesnt leave my breath smelling of coffee all morning long. Try it and see. . . . .
When i worked in the Arena Football league for the Albany Conquest, Red Bull was a sponsor for us. They gave us a mini fridge and stocked that baby up every week and then restock it for game days. We had a full mini fridge in the office of red bull. When you work 12-18 hours in a day, that stuff can keep you going for the whole day. But beware of the red bull crash that happens later...
After we lost in the playoffs to Macon, the red bull guy took us out to the bars in albany. He got us into every bar free and we drank red bull drinks all night at no cost. I have since never touched the stuff again...

Tried it again after work on my way to get a shot (med, not at a bar). It woke me up better than coffee does without the headache or the demands for solid and liquid discharge that coffee generates.
I'm extremely surprised -- I thought it would give me bad headaches. I guess there's no way to know untl you try it. And I could get used to the taste -- just as I did with coffee so long ago (freshman year of colllege).

It is a taste that is aquired. I enjoy the drink; both results and taste. to describe the taste I would have to say it would be the liquid version on Sweet Tarts.
I used to drink Mountain Dews version which is called Amp. That is a VERY sweet flavored drink. But that is no shock, its made by Mt Dew.

I had a cambodian friend in HS that got me on the original Asian product. It came in small peroxide bottles and had a small red bull or red buffalo on the front. The taste was very similar to robitussin. It was MUCH MUCH stronger than the mass produced red bull in the can. The taste wasn't nearly as appealing though. It came in 4 packs at the asian grocery store. We used to drink it to sober up before going home after a long night of drinking. I'm sure this isn't true but at the time it was rumored to have bull testosterone in it. Yummy

Need to wake up WELL in the morning? Two words: Cuban Coffee. Bustelo or Pilon. Been my daily morning drink at 5:30 am for years now. Add some croquetas to the mix - especially ones with a little tiny bit of garlic in there - and you're good to go til lunch. As long as there is that mix around, I'll NEVER go the energy drink route.
