Glad to see they opened up a cigar lounge next door to Peter Luger. As the CA article on its web site states, Luger is hands down THE best steak house in this country (only place I have found that comes remotely close in my travels is Cabana Las Lilas in Buenos Aires)..if I can make one correction or suggestion for those of you fortunate to eat here: their lobster is phenomenal as well making Luger the place for the ultimate surf and turf....finally, Peter Luger does have a location on Long Island (Great Neck) and it took me 3 visits before I admitted the steak is just as good here as it is in the original Williamsburg (Brooklyn) location. Heading back to NY this fall and will stop by at Luger as I always do when I am in town.

I agree Peter Luger is arguably the best...but I personally prefer my steak to come as a steak, and not all chopped up. Plus the place takes too many customers and I feel it really hurts the quality of preparation alot of times. I've had some of the greatest steaks i've ever had there, but I've also had some burnt meat and poor service.

If you are not a person of status or a regular customer there, there is a good chance you will not get a meal deserving of their status as the best steakhouse in America. The other thing that sucks is getting a reservation at a normal eating hour can be a pain. Without planning weeks in advance, you can expect to be eating a steak at 3 in the afternoon.

Just be sure to also patronize the Velvet Cigar Lounge. I've been to their location in the East Village and really admire the creativity and gumption of the owners. Here they are in a city and state where smoking seems to be a thing of the past - and where no more "cigar bars" are allowed to be opened - and what do they do? Open a retail tobacco store that just happens to serve excellent adult beverages. God bless their loophole-finding souls.

I do seem to recall in the past you could apply for a Peter Luger credit card.
