I am taking 5 days in Puerto Plata at the end of March and I was wondering....
are there factory tours or visits possible?
where is the best place to buy?
any other points of interest worth seeking out?

Thanx in advance for the assist,
Eric

Try taking the tour to the La Aurora cigar factory in Santiago. Went there two years ago ang got 2 Boxes of smokes for less than 100. bucks. Take some Dominican money with you if you go.You'll enjoy the tour.

Cool

Thanx for the info, I'll give them a call and see when the tours are available. I'm reall looking forward to it. Nothing like watching someone take something so simple and make a satisfying creation.

Did that 3 yrs ago and loved it. A number of factory tours are available. I planned on going last fall but Katrina cancelled my trip and made me swear off the caribean during hurricane season

We are going to Puerta Plata as well next week, I was told to be extremely careful of counterfeits while there. I also heard that the cigar prices are comparable to US prices due to duties. I was hoping to go to Fuente factory and pick up a box or 2 of Opus X's, but that may be a fantasy...

Thanx to all for the input so far I really apreciate it.
I've heard that too about the counterfeits, what's the best way to avoid that?, check the labels? Good luck with your fantasy, let me know how you make out. WinkSenorGorilla@nyc.rr.com
Two of my favorite cigars are made here, both La Gloria Cubana and La Flor Dominicana;I was hoping to sneak away for a factory tour. maybe I could get in to one of those? Big Grin

Can anyone tell me where the best places are to buy cigars in DR to avoid getting stuck with fakes and get the best price? Confused
