" . i put two boxes of cigars on the window sill and voila, the cigars became, well, "plump" within a few days. so far the plump damp cigars smoke "better" than the cool dry ones "

I heard the food there is actually pretty good. I've been there but never ate. If you're curious about cigars, ask to see their "specials" under the counter Haha they even had Cohiba Edicion Limitadas 2008.

I really can't say. I haven't been there since the first time I visited half a year ago. Fauxhibas are good deterrents. But I would go back to try their food if I'm allowed to bring my own cigars and smoke indoors.

Anyone know what happened? One less place to smoke indoors in the winter in NYC.
Steve, I stopped by in April, and had a long conversation with Ralph Amoruso I believe. That day he told me that their lease/share was going to expire and the new taxes were sky high, impossible to make them work. So the answer I believe is high taxes/lease expiration.
I realized that day, that this unique piece of New York history, was about to die. We decided to go back for the next three nights and enjoy every minute, ordering almost entire menu, one by one, alternatin with pizza. I think that I gained 10 pounds, but hell, it was well worth it.
The italian food is excellent, almost home style, huge servings, and their house wine, oh man, good price and really optimum for the complex flavor. Actually for New York, their prices were on the low side.
So, needless to say, we enjoyed those nights, all great people, great ambience, with the fine service of a beautiful and super nice hungarian waitress. And that last night, I gave away all the cigars I had with me, to share with the owners and customers, knowing, that in my next trip to New York, this paradise, would only exist in history books. And we only had to walk 10 feet to our parked car.
* On the plus side we have some underground italian places, where we smoke cigar with dinner, while some of the NY big wigs (to remain nameless) were in the open low level..LOL. Some are like attic setting, all very private rooms. It is just start, let's new york, be back on top! Just keep pushing your CRA rights, you never know.
