CA did an article about this a while back.

I have had Cuban snadwiches in New York, Miami and (of all places) The Cayman Islands.

The pork is usually seasoned best in Miami.

Tampa Cuban sandwiches are made reflecting the Italian influence of the area. They tend to have salami, lettuce and tomato, which I don't really like on my Cuban sandwiches. I prefer the Miami style: roast pork, ham, swiss cheese, pickle.

Latin American cafe (several locations) makes a superb Cubano.

It must be made with seasoned roast pork. The roast pork or Pernil is what makes the sandwich. In Buffalo we have a couple Puerto Rican reasturants with the best Pernil for making Cuban sandwiches.
A Cubano real followed by a Cuban espresso and a cigar? Man thats the good stuff.
When in Disney world, go to Bongos Cuban cafe. After lunch go across the street and get a hand rolled cigar from Sosa family cigar. Good stuff for the adult aspect of disney.

Big Grin Spot on...the Latin American on 57th Avenue and SW 9th is the very best.

Used to be the L.A. on Coral Way was tops, but last 2 times I was there it was pretty bad - the food and the service.

Oh, lucky lucky man.

Problem here is getting Cuban bread...no one makes it.

But I'm going to order a "plancha" and start trying with different breads - I miss the damn things.

I'll be in Miami for Christmas, maybe I can ship some back frozen...hmmm.

Not entirely true, and not that cut & dry! Tampa is a fair sized city with literally hundreds of lil shops that offer cuban sandwiches, and MANY of them offer them authenticly (without the Italian influence mentioned)I should know, Born and raised in the Cigar City, I grew-up on Cuban Sandwiches and still enjoy2-3 through-out the week! Wink

Place in Boston (Pressed Sandwiches) makes an almost authentic delicious one ... Naked Fish used to make the best in the area, but moved out of the Boston location. Che Henri in Cambridge makes an incredible representation, probably even better than Naked Fish. Can only get it off the bar menu.

i guess your a local guy shortsqueeze, the cuban sandwich at naked fish is pretty good,i had a few from the natick spot.next time you go to fenway, look for louie tiants food stand also pretty good.but the best local place for a cubano is izzy,s sub shop in cambridge on harvard st.they only have them on friday and saturday, more like the miami style with roast pork not sliced deli, also great purto rican food...the worst cubano is in jamaica plain ,cant think of the name of the joint but it has a huge blue awning, they put mayonaise and ketchup on the sandwich...gross...

If you ever get to Knoxville, TN, there is a great little Cuban place called Alex Havana Cafe. It was started by a Cuban lady and they make a Cuban Sandwich which I hold as THE standard by which all others are judged for Cuban sandwiches. Awesome. I eat there once a week. I don't even have to order. They bring me the order as soon as I walk in. And yes, I have eaten them in Tampa, Miami and various other cities in South FLA and none compare.
