Well i finally made it too the liqour store with makers mark in mind but the store had a deal going for knob creek and i had read alot about it so i figured why not. Knowing it was a 100 proof i was alittle worried since i'm pretty much new to whiskeys and sipping them at that.

So i get home this evening and not really wanting to drink right now but unable not to try a taste i poured a little in a glass. I added a dash of water and sat down. First sip...

wow, nice little punch with it. felt the burn down my throat for about a minute after. thought the flavor was nice, nothing foul or repulsive. good aftertaste...burped.. tasted good.

Decided to add another "dash" of water, hey i'm new to this to try and kill some of the burn.

second sip. burn dulled down some. taste was about the same. felt a nice burn all the way down through my chest. made me smile Smile feels good.

It seemed the more i sipped the stronger the flavor got.

All in all this first glass was a little rough but it has got my attention. I think i need to get my taste buds and my body used to something like this, quite a bit different from drinking beer.

I must say i am looking forward to the rest of the bottle and seeing how i develope from the first glass to the last.

Congtrats, now you are a man. Knob is good stuff. I add a little water and an ice cube to mine too. I like the way it makes the flavors easier to taste. Another really smooth way to drink is johnny walker black. It's a good blended scotch to start you on your way.

KC is very smooth. I went from Makers Mark to Knob Creek and now started driking Booker's (127 Proof). I had two glasses on the rocks with my cigar and a fire outside. Felt OK until I went inside the house. That Booker's sneaks up on you. So now I plan on Makers Mark for an average day at work, Knob Creek for a hard day, and Booker's for a "the world sucks and I want to pass out cold tonight" day.

Way to go Ripper ! You should enjoy it with a couple of ice cubes and a splash of water. We may have to dig you up a SNOB Number.

Congratulations on your acquisition.

I prefer Woodford Reserve with just a little ice.

Bourbon and Branch is one of my favorite drinks

well i've got the bottle almost half gone! Smile

i've been trying it different ways, some neat, some with ice, some without ice, some with water, some with ice and water.

to me it went down easiest when i added an icecube or two AND a tiny bit of water.

i had 2 glasses like that tonight and one neat

to drink it neat i think i need alot more experience, i can't say i didn't enjoy it because it was nice but a little rough to me

its funny because i set two glasses aside.

one was neat and one had ice and water. (I like taste testing)

the one neat burned alot(makes ya feel all tingly inside Smile )

and the one with ice and water was smoothest.

HOWEVER to me it seemed the taste was the same, just with the ice and water a little less intrusive. I didn't feel like i lost the taste, it just wasn't as bold.

Right now i'm think i'm likin it on the rocks with a dash of water. still seemed to taste good but was smooth.

That is exaclty why I chill mine with ice and add a little water too. It does cut out the burn and just leave the flavor. That is the same priniple behind martinis I think. I wonder how a bourbon martini would taste(without vermouth of course).

MmmmmmmmmmmmmBourbon.
Knob Creek, Makers, Blantons, E Craig 18 yr,Bufallo Trace are all good but, Pappy Van Winkles, now that's America's best whisky.
Mind you, that is one Canadians opinion.

Knob Creek is very good. Try some Jim Beam Black next time. I think you will be very pleased and not fork out as much money.

Knob Creek KY is also the home of the Machine Gun Shoot. Twice a year it is open to the public and you can shoot all kinds of weapons from flame throwers to quad mini guns and even canons. I have been several times and I highly recommend it. It is site to see!

These are all great and I like them all but if you have a chance to get your hands on A.H. Hirsch 16YO, do it!
It is the best.
