Those friendly folks at Buffalo Trace Distilleries have released(recently) two new whiskeys in their Antique Collection.
A bourbon, William Larue Weller(spelled out on the bottle), and a rye, Thomas H. Handy Sazerac(also spelled out on the bottle).
Both are bottled at barrel strength--the Weller at 120 proof and the Sazerac at 130 proof. Neither are filtered and are just as they come from the barrel.
The Weller is a BIG bourbon with a huge chocolate and mollases presence and a long, long finish.
The Sazerac is a spice cake of a whiskey--I can't do the description justice--that keeps on giving long after the swallowing is gone.
Both are priced--in Houston--at less than $50 and should be in your rotation.
A word of use: there are present in the whiskey some fine charcoal particulates from the barrel. These will gather in the botom of your glass unless you take the precaution of mixing the bottle before your pour to minimize it. This is not harmful in any way, it just looks bad in the bottom of the glass.
I hope all who appreciate fine whiskey will take a shot at these whiskeys. I have no conection with Buffalo Trace--just a connection with those who love fine American whiskey.
Bottoms up and God bless us all.
