I'm going to be in Manhattan this weekend and most of next week for work. It's my first multiday stayin New York City. I'd like to visit Club Macanudo as well as some of the other exempted cigar bars.

What's recommended?

Do any of them have dress codes and do they require you purchase cigars on site to meet the tobacco revenue threshold? Or do they charge clipping fees?

BTW-I'm staying in Times Square.

Enjoy your stay!

Be sure to check out the site for Club Macanudo.

If I were to go, I'd never wear jeans and always have a button down shirt. I probably wouldn't do a sports jacket, that's not me.

Most places charge a bring your own fee, if they allow it at all. For example, Davidoff on Columbus won't allow outside smokes. I was just there over the weekend and their walk-in has a great selection. Picked up 2 1926 Maduro Torpedo's, a Tat J21 and a Davidoff Mill. Blend...

If you're in Times Square, Carnegie Club (56th and 7th) is closest. Business casual is fine (jeans prob OK as well). No clippping charge at the bar. In the lounge, you must buy a cigar.

Here's my list of places to smoke a cigar and have a drink at the same time in NYC along with dress code.

'Dressy' means shirt with collar and no jeans, jacket prefered. For Club Mac in particular when I've been in there most guys are in suits and ties.

  • Havana Dreams (Queens) - Casual
  • Velvet Cigar Lounge (East Village) - Casual
  • Circe Tabac (near Canal) - Casual
  • Merchants East (UES) - ?
  • Swan's Bar (near Wall St) - Casual
  • Carnegie Club (56th b/w 6th & 7th) - Dressy
  • Club Macanudo (UES) - Dressy
  • Florio's (Little Italy) - Casual?
  • Lexington Bar & Books (West Village) - Casual
  • Hudson Bar & Books (UES)- Dressy

Club Macanudo will not let you in if you are wearing jeans. It is not necessary, however, to be in a suit. Slacks and a nice buttoned shirt are fine. I have brought my own cigars (ISOM) to smoke with me there but have supported their alcohol license--never had a problem. This is the one place I almost always frequent when I visit NYC. I keep on meaning to frequent other places but have not gotten around to doing so and am quite content here.

I just took a look at the menu and it sounds delicious and the prices are not out of line.
