Me and the family bought a new home recently and did not take a vacation last year. This year we are planning a “American road trip” so to speak. We have enjoy dining at different places on our travels and always have great luck with local recommendations. If you came to my city, Indianapolis, here’s where I would tell you to try.
Breakfast: La peep; Downtown location always great food and service. I would had to mention Sister’s place and the Loading dock, great food at both
Lunch; Yatz: best damn Cajun food you ever have, cheap too. Shapiro’s Kosher deli is right up there too -The best pastrami I ever had and best desserts in the city. If you got time take your family to Gray brothers Cafeteria just south( 15 minutes) in Mooresville, Everything there is as good as it gets.
Seafood: A dead tie between the Oceanaire and McCormick and Schmicks. Both places fly in fresh daily. Try the crab cakes at Oceanaire- best I’ve ever had
Burgers. Definitely Baseys Bar and Grill. Must mention Bourbon street bar and grill is pretty damn good too.
Steaks. My favorite is Morton’s of Chicago, outside of that go for St Elmos or Mo’s
Pizza. Two of the best places in the world, yes I said world and I’ve had some damn good pizza in a lot of places: The New bethel ordinary or Bazbeaux, both are outstanding.
Cigar bar. Nicky Blaines. Nice selection of cigar!!

Wow,you made me hungry. I'm in the Detroit area, so here goes some places in my neck of the woods:
Breakfast: Nana's Kitchen, Wyandotte. (Nothing fancy, but the food is good). Downriver Coney Island, Six Stars Restaurant.
Lunch: Lukich Family Restaurant, Troy.(generous portions at a low price), Ivanhoe Cafe, Detroit (best fried perch/walleye I have ever had) Captains Pub Bar(Trenton)
Dinner: Pegasus Restaurant (Greektown), Vince's Restaurant (Italian), Under The Eagle (Polish fare, Hamtramck), Slows BBQ,
Steak: Shula's or Mortons in Troy.
Pizza: Buddy's or Pizzapopalas
Dessert: The Whitney, Detroit
Burgers: A lot to choose from, Allen Park Bar, Wheat and Rye, Checker Bar, Detroit, Chesleys(Lincoln Park)
Sports Bar: Nemo's Detroit
Cigar Bar: Belicoso Cafe, Wyandotte.

hey.. I like where this is going... so here goes the MONTREAL thread....
breakfast: Au petit Poucet; breakfast and lunch place in a small Laurentian town called Val David (about 40 min. north of Montreal.. in a beautiful mountain setting).. they have one of the best traditional Quebecois breakfast in the province... one should DEFINITELY try their french toast, and the "sugar shack breakfast".. but make sure you're hungry !!!!
lunch: Montreal hs plenty of samll eateries with outside patios.... try one of many places on either Crescent or McGill college.. Both streets are in the middle of down-town and about 5 min walking distance from each others... and they both have at least half a dozen places to try.. ny favourite is PINO lounge on cresent.... they're also opened at night, and have a great view on the crescent street strip (which is full of nigh clubs and bars as well)
Seafood: Homard fou; it's a place in Old montreal by the water..... they have one of the best lobster newberg I've ever tried.. and a good wine selection at very reasonable prices...
Steaks: Rib'n Reef of Queue de Cheval.. both have succulent steaks... brought raw to your table for you to choose a cut..My favourite is Rib'n Reef.... an exquisite Pepper steak that is prepared at your table (the sauce that is).. and so is the dressing for the ceasar salad.... both are a a bit pricey though.. but definitely worth it...
Cigar lounges: well there are 2 places left in Montreal.. whiskey cafe, and stogies... stogies allows you to bring your own smokes with no lighting fees.. whiskey cafe charges you 10 $ to light your own cigar (and that is only after I had a HUGE argument with the manager about that.. but that's a whole other hread by itself).. but they have a HUGE selection of scotch (about 150 diffent kind of single malts and over 50 blends)... the lounge is beter biult at whiskey cafe (better couches and a state-of-the-art air filtering system), but the staff is much nicer at stogies.... also, stogies is on crescent street (great night life).. stogies has a HUGE walk-in humidor... and they also sell by the box (at tabaconist prices and not lounge prices).. whiskey cafe, has a medium size cabinet with a descent selection... their prices are higher though and they don't sell boxes...

New York has too many to list, but here goes my very limited sample based on actual experience.
Breakfast - Four Seasons Hotel. Best OJ this side of Rio. Damn good egg McMuffin (eggs Benedict), too.
Lunch - Casual: Daisy Mae BBQ. The stand on 6th Ave and 48th is good, the restaurant in Hell's Kitchen is better. Fancy: Union Square Cafe. Most favorite all-around restaurant in the city. Could also mention its sista Grammercy Tavern. Both also work well for dinner.
Burger - Old Town Tavern on 19th St.
Seafood - I've always liked Docks Oyster Bar for lobster and stuff. Pearl Oyster Bar has the best bivalves in town, though. Went to La Bernadin once. It was damn nice. Its Zagat's best. Like the crab cakes at Tropica.
Steaks - Peter Lugers in Brooklyn. Also like Sparks, and Smith & Wollensky, and the Palm...and Ben Bensons...and...
Special category - Asia de Cuba. Asian, Latin fusion.
Cigar Bar - Only been to Carnegie Club and some shytewhole in he Village. Will take the C Club.
I'm from Houston, TX but the best pizza in this world is at Defazzio Bros. on South 4th St. in Troy, NY. Get the basil pesto grilled chicken w/fresh tomatoes roasted on top.

First week in April eh, you know what that means and you can't say no to this. Tigers opening series, and since you're going to Canada maybe you'd like to start the trip early by attending a game, they play the Blue Jays. While at the game if youre willing to drop $65 dollars a ticket you can go watch the game in the Cigar Lounge of Comerica Park. I don't think it gets much better than that.

In my town, Old San Juan, theres too much to do in just one day. But this is my selection of the best of the best.
Breakfast: La Bombonera, great food, good service, been there for ever. This should be your first stop to make shure you've got the fuel you need for the day.
Lunch: El Jibarito, awesome local food, pretty ladies, at home feel. I just love that place.
Seafood: not a big fan of it but i hear Dragonfly is pretty good.
Burgers: El Hamberguer, great little burgers with all the best toppings. get them to go if your on a hurry.
Steaks: Hotel el Convento has a nice little inner courtyard restaurant that serves great steaks.
Pizza: Pizzicore is definitely your best stop for pizza. cheese for ever.
Cigar bar: Don Collins Cigars, the best local cigars ever. Great rum also. I always got there to get my stash.
So thats my city, it's one of the best.

I've never tried this place myslef.. I've heard good things about it, but I was just posting info from my first-hand experiences....
Orange County, CA (its a fairly small county so I'll just lump it).
Breakfast: My absolute favorite place is The Omelette Parlor in Costa Mesa on 17th St. just east of Newport Blvd. (big breakfast omlettes, with potatoes and fresh fruit for under $6).
Fish Tacos: Pedro's Tacos in San Clemente
Chinese: It used to be Lucy Woo's in Brea, but they got busted for serving alcohol to minors and then went out of business. Other than that I love PF Chang's but you can get that most anywhere.
ELAW, you have probably never been to my town, but I have been to yours. In fact I went to my first two years of college in Franklin, Indiana (back in 1964 and 65). Hopefully there are better restaurants in Indianapolis now, because back then the best was none too good.
New York City has some of the best eateries in the world, and not because I say so, but because the food critics do.
Every neighborhood in NYC has its own ethnic flair
So many that I can not list them all (see my review of Peter Lugars above).
Pizza? So many that I have not been able to try more than a few hundred.
Breakfast? The Georgia Diner in Elmhurst for starters.
Lunch: For Deli you can't beat Katzes or the Carnagie Deli. Bens Best in Rego Park has been around for aer 75-years.
Dinner: Look at Zagats. They had to print an entire BOOK just to tell you. I like The Four Seasons in Manhattan.
I hope you have the opportunity to visit New York. When I have guests we have to start thinking about where to go MONTHS in advance just to decide.

If you are coming across at the tunnel, there are a number of shops in the downtown Windsor area that carry CC(if you are in the market for them). I stopped in at Habana Cigar Club on Chatham St. on Saturday. They have a nice selection. I haven't been in the other stores yet, but plan to soon.
If you are into ribs; Tunnel of BBQ is right near the tunnel exit. It's not as good as they used to be, but still not bad.
