That's freaking great! Isn't "need" the best subjective word at times? I'm with you Bombardier, I need to drink more Porter and I definitely need to order a new Humi very soon and a few boxes of Fuentes to fill it!!

London Pride is a pale ale. Their porter is called london porter. The pale kicks the crap out of just about any other english pale out there IMO, including bass. Its fantastic on draught. If you ever see it at a british pub, I highly recommend it. Its even good out of a bottle. The porter is great too. Fullers doesn't make a bad beer.

What do you boys like to use in a black and tan (along with Guinness, of course)? Harp's is the traditional favorite, but I am open to suggestions.

Pmp- Tru dat. I realized it later that night when I popped open a bottle of Porter and read the word "Porter" and not "Pride..." Good times, good times. I've had the pride pale once but, overall, pales doesn't do much for me. I don't know why...
Corio- Bass ain't bad for the B&T but many consider it a desecration. I'd like to pour one with a Smittick's just to see what the results would be... albeit less "tan!"

Interesting... I didn't know it had a term. Thanks for sharing, and now as soon as I can hunt down some Murphy's (if there is any in this state) I'm gonna try that mix!

I have contemplated making a smoked beer. They sell peat smoked malt, like the stuff they use for scotch. I hear it takes very very little to impart a smokey flavor.

Originally posted by Pmpimbura: Guinness and bass is a half and half I think. Black and tan is harp or other lager. I like murphy's and harps. That makes a great black and tan.
Guiness and Bass is a black and tan Guiness and Harp is a half and half

You should give Sierra Neveda Porter a try, it's very close to the Guiness that you will get in Ireland.........very creamy. Their Pale Ale is very close to the ales you will find in Northern England.
Guinness is great in any form, BUT it certainly doesn't make the best export. It doesn't taste the same in America as it does in Ireland. I dont know if it was the cozy pubs, the beautiful barmaids or the irish stew, but it always tastes better in Ireland.
