Yeah, yeah . . . gasoline, turpentine, paint thinner . . . I know all that. Aside from stuff that is obviously stupid, what are some BAD combinations?

I do not like wine with a cigar. One always seems to overpower the other. If you have a wine with a light finish, it doesn't seem to work. A heavier dessert wine can be okay, but why not go ahead and drink porto instead?

My guess is that most liquers would not be good, especially things that are fruity or chocolate.

Anyway, take me to school on what you think sucks to drink with a cigar.

Gin and tonic and very hoppy beer. Both good in their own right but absolutely no complement to a cigar at all IMHO.

I had a gin and tonic with a Davidoff (Dominican) at a pub in London once. I do not remember the combination being that bad, but I also remember the cigar being very mild.

I can imagine smoking a full-bodied cigar with gin and tonic tasting pretty off.

Ew, sake with a cigar. I can see that one. I have not tried it, but I can see how that would be one to avoid. Snapple too.

I dont mind a gin and tonnic with a cigar, especialy in the summer. I also dont perticularly think port is the best match for a cigar (even though i have the 2 together all the time). Ports sweetness and jamyness quite often takes over a cigar, especialy if you are drinking LBV or ruby port. Tawny or Vintage is definitly the way to go when pairing the 2.
Hoppy beer like a IPA is a definite no-no as is white wine. Red wine even isnt the greatest as the smoke can bring out some poor characteristics in cheeper made wine. If you must drink wine with your cigar I would sugest a good quality Barrossa Shiraz($25plus) or a mostly merlot dominated Bordeaux.
Spirits suit cigars best, Rum, brandy, and Scotch are most favorable.

I drink Tanqueray and Tonic with afternoon cigars in the summer.

I drink some liquors such as Grand Marnier with cigars when I have Grand Marnier.

I would avoid milk or other sweet milky drinks when smoking a cigar, but I guess its to each his own.

I know there are some, including myself, who have a soda with a cigar now and then. Stay away from orange soda or grape soda. Those and cigars are not a good match. I agree with avoiding milk too.

Oh, I remember the worst one of all....Peppermint tea. My wife made me a cup of tea once. It was peppermint. After one sip I couldn't taste my cigar. Not even slightly. The flavor was completely gone. All I tasted for the next hour was peppermint. NEVER drink peppermint tea with a cigar. It just doesn't work.

Lambic style beers are horrible with a cigar and pale ales dont mix well either. Just my personal opinion.

I had a shot of Aftershock with a CAO Cx2 once. That was not delicious by any stretch of imagination. The Aftershock just completely overpowered the cigar, which according to what I hear is hard for anything to accomplish with a Cx2.

For me, pretty much anything that's terribly sweet doesn't mix with most of the cigars I prefer. Basically, if a drink comes with an umbrella in it, don't fire up a stogie until you cleanse your palette afterwards.

Never drink too much strong coffee.

The caffeine in 5 or 6 cups can make a person nervous, jittery, over-talkative and even a a bit paranoid.
