I used to watch Magnum PI. The main character, Thomas Magnum, talked about making himself a chicken fried steak. Maybe it was another show but....

Now, my understanding is that he fried his steak in a pan coated with chicken fat.

Now I`ve eaten Kentucky fried chicken and many years ago I fried some steaks in a pan with margarine or butter. I also heard that some people actually deep fry turkeys (I saw it on Myth Busters)

Any of you make chicken fried steak?
Isn`t it kind of very greasy?
How does it compare to a medium rare T-bone on hot charcoals???

I don't know how it is made, I just know I like it! I can feel my arterties clogging up as I type. It is great with alittle gravy on the side.

I've had it several times. Never made it, but it seems to be a steak prepared the same way you fry chicken. Coat it and fry it in oil. They usually use a thinner steak and they beat the hell out of it before hand to soften it up b/c it's probably a cheap cut of meat. It's cooked through, so it's nothing like eating a normal steak.

It's usually seved with biscuits and the whole thing is covered with a white gravy. Really good and really bad for you.

My mom makes the best chicken fried steak. She takes a thin steak cutlet, and batters it. She then fries it in a half inch of hot oil. Afterward, she uses the oil and beef grease left in the pan to make a cream gravy by adding flour and milk and cooking until thick. It doesn't display the taste of the meat like grilling a t-bone would, and that's a good thing because you don't use the same quality meat. They're both great (t-bone's and chicken fried steak) and it just depends what mood I'm in. But...chicken fried steak is especially common and well-prepared in the South. So you Yankees, you're out of luck here.

take a cheep chuck steak, beat the H3ll out of it with a meat mallet, dredge it in seasoned flour, dip it in beaten egg & put it in the bread crumbs that have been seasoned with a lot of pepper , deep fry till gloden brown, just like you would do with a piece of chicken, got to have a white( Cream ) gravy , with or with out sausage in it, serve it with home frys , apple sauce & a green veggie, , down home good !

From what I've had, it's roundsteak or a similar cut, then pounded to tenderize it. It's coated in flour and fried, like you would fried chicken. Once the meat is done, it's smothered in a white gravey. The best I ever had was at a friend's uncle's restaurant in Beaumont, TX.

Try Chili's, the place I go serves the biggest chicken fried steak I have seen.

COUNTRY-FRIED STEAK
We start with our fork-tender, hand-battered CERTIFIED ANGUS BEEF TM and add mashed potatoes & black pepper gravy. Served with sweet corn on the cob & garlic toast

I love chicken fried steak! Thats some of the best downhome country food you can get. I once went to a place in Arkansas that had chicken fried ribs. Thought that might be going a bit too far.

...I've not made nor eaten any in a while. But when I did eat it more often, I liked mine with breakfast (the greatest meal of all-times!). I like it medium with some tabasco on top! I wish that I could have some right now! It doesn't exactly, uh, fit in with my lifestyle.

I have deep fried a turkey before, or, at least, I've been with a friend who was doing it. It was a lot of fun. Afterward, we tried battering and deep frying various candy bars. Delicious.
