Finally cracked open the bottle my wife gave me for Valentine's day. It is a tawny port. I had never tried any port made outside of Portugal, so I was very curious.

Old Codger is a decent tawny, but I prefer my port to be a little heavier. This had a tremendous amount of raisin flavor in it -- not a bad thing but not what I am used to. It did not have some of the "chemical" tones one gets from ports in this price range on occasion ($20-30). Overall, pretty smooth and drinkable. It went well with the Edmundo I was smoking.

If you like tawnies and want to try something a bit unusual, the Old Codger is decent.

Never heard of or seen that one.

I hope this is evidence that the world of port is expanding. Always fun to try new and different variations.

Thanks for weighing in on the Clocktower, Bass Man. I have a bottle that's been sitting at home for a few weeks and now it needs to be enjoyed! Any recommendations for a cigar that pairs well with it or Port in general, for that matter?

I have yet to smoke a cigar that did not go well with a glass of port. I smoke medium to full-bodied smokes almost all of the time, however.

Excellent, well then I'll bodly press ahead. I usually take some red vino with a cigar so this isn't too different. Thanks for the advice!
