Greetings!
So now that the Oktoberfest in Munich is exactly 1 month away (they tap the keg on September 22nd), anyone headed that way at all?

I know I am...really looking forward to it too..3rd time for me! I wish I could say I will enjoy a nice cigar there, but as I know the big tents there, not really condusive to enjoying a great cigar...although I cannot imagine not smoking something Smile

Do they allow any smoking, or just no cigars?

Smoking is allowed there. Even with the new no-smoking policy sweeping through Germany, an event as large as Oktoberfest was granted a special condition to allow guests to smoke. Don't know for how many years that will continue.

Cigars are allowed as well. There are waitresses that sell various kinds of cigars...nothing too special though. It just gets incredibly boistrous (sp?) in the tents, and it would be too bad to not be able to enjoy a fine cuban in there.

But the beer is fantastic, and what a party!

I was going to try and make it but my business trip to Europe got pushed forward so I'm actually over here now (I head back to the states next Wed). I went in 03' and it was a blast. I have some Austrailian friends that I met on that trip and we still get together once or twice a year and drink heavily...haha.

Have fun.....don't die of alcohol poisoning.

I was there in 1992 during my 25th annaversary year. We had a great time. I especially enjoyed Heidelberg with a huge outdoor fair, lots of beer and brats.

Hello everyone,
My buddy and I will be attending Oktoberfest, and this will be our first time. He's traveling from the USA and I from the UK. We are pretty excited about having a cigar or two while we are there. So far I have found four smokers lounges in Munich, anybody know anything about them?

Hilton Munich Park hotel – The People's Bar
ArabellaSheraton Grand Hotel München - Baccho
Le Meridien Munich - La Traction Bar
Tabacco

From what I have read, there should be really good tobacconist through out the city and a great selection including Cubans. I haven't been able to find any information about cigars in the tents though (except the above post).

I guess I'll see some of you there.

How I wish I could travel back to Deutschland. I went back in 2005, after my junior year in high school. Went with my German class and had a blast. Granted, we went in July so no Oktoberfest for us, but just being able to go to a bar and drink legally was fun enough.

Definitely would like to go back and although I have the money to go, it would be a choice between Oktoberfest or seeing my family at Christmas.

I would strongly recommend traveling to Germany, it's really a great country.

Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Ok, dumb question from a fledgling traveller. Is there an Oktoberfest in Austria as well as Bavaria? I will be there the end of september, beginning of October.

Also what are the smoking rules in Hungary and Austria?

On Sunday September 30 at around 20:30 a small group of Cigar loving Oktoberfest revelers are going to enjoy a smoke at the People's Bar in the Munich Park Hotel. Bring you favorite stick, and join us for conversation about the best beer, the best tents, or the places to go for the best times in Munich.

Just returned from Munich yesterday. There is an excellent cigar shop on the corner of Odeonplatz. Their prices are reasonable by European standards and they have an outstanding selection.

A short stroll away is the venerable Schumann bar. This is a formal bar, so you should throw on a jacket and otherwise look/act professional. This isn't a tourist bar and the creme de la creme of Munchen go there. They have a small but excellent selection of cigars for sale at surprisngly reasonable prices. Their selection of wines and spirits is top notch.

Also, you can smoke cigars in the Hofbrauhaus if that kind of place is your thing.

I found a matchbook from the cigar shop. It's called Zechbauer Munchen and it's at Residenzstrasse 10, 80333. Well worth a visit.
