I stopped by the liquor store this afternoon as I am down to my last 55 gallon drum of Tanquray gin and Mike, the shop owner, showed me something rather new.
Called Rangpur this gin is flavored with Rangpur limes and has a nice light flavor.
I tried it in a Tanqueray and Tonic this afternoon and I plan to try it in a martini on Saturday evening.
Has anyone else tried this flavored gin?

The best Gin I've found to date is Hendrick's. Comes in a dark (almost black) apothecary bottle. Along with the normal botanicals it has cucumber and rose infused with it. I know it sounds kind of strange but the cucumber gives it a light, almost earthy undertone while the rose gives it a slightly sweet taste and an amazing nose. In a Gin and Tonic I put a small slice of lime and a slice of cucumber on a pick. Darn tasty.

I haven't seen the Rangpur yet, I'd give it a go, I like lime in a g&t. Hendrick's is very good if you're in the mood for something a little different, refreshing flavour. Usually though, it's good old Gordons for me, especially the slightly stronger duty free.

Doc I know a little bit about it since I sell it in my shop. Apparently it was formulated with the intent that it could be used as a gin and tonic item and other lighter drinks, such as Tom Collins etc. It is 82.6 proof versus 94.6 on regular Tanqueray thus taming it down considerably. As you mentioned the Rangpur Lime gives it a different taste. All in all IMO its a nice alternative to regular Tanqueray and I didn't think it had the long aftertaste of the regular.
John Paul: something I really enjoy in the hot summer months is a Tom Collins. 1-to-2 oz. of good gin, in a big rocks glass, then fill it with collins mix add a wedge of lime and a cherry, makes a very nice refreshing drink.
I forgot to mention that it pairs very nicely with a cigar.

DocB--I am on my second bottle of Rangpur and it is only early June!
Double Corona--thatn's for the tip on the proof of Rangpur--I had not noticed. Is Tanqueray 10 the same proof as regular Tanqueray or is it different, too?

Forget the lime? Why would you want to omit the lime? Still feeling a warm, relaxed feeling from two of these on the deck this evening accompanied by a Sancho Panza cigar!
