Has anybody successfully used the Colibri's new Transpack during recent air travel? I've read a lot of claims that they (the transpacks) are approved for transporting lighter in the claimed baggage. But I did search on the official TSA site and didn't find anything to substantiate this claim. I'm going to be air traveling soon and would appreciate some help in this matter.

I always carry a Bic lighter in my back left pocket, the metal detectors never go off even when they use the wand.
"They're not real Cubans. They're Dominicans." Yeah. I'm a little worried. When there's no work, and the people get restless, who do you think they come after?... El Presidente!

I had a bic lighter in my briefcase once and they ORL TSA agent stopped me and emptied out the contents of my briefcase until he found the lighter. I mistakenly left it in there before heading to the airport.
They can see the lighter in the X-Ray machine if you do carry on. Thats why you have to wait in line everytime for some woman to dig the lighter out from her purse. But you don't walk through an X-ray machine, and the metal on the lighter is not enough to make the metal detector go off. Hence keeping it in a pocket you won't normally empty out.

I am in a wheelchair so I don't go through the normal scanning process. They use a wand on me and do a pat down. I completely forgot that I had the lighter in my briefcase and you'd have thought I was killing everyone in line the way they reacted. Now I never carry any lighters or matches on my person when in an airport.
I have used the Tranzpack several times flying between Seattle and Las Vegas without any problems. Of course, you can only use this in checked baggage. Since you are limited in the amount of liquid you can take on the plane these days, I check my bag more than I did in the past.

I used the tranzpak for the first time successfuly on a recent trip. I actually told the TSA reps that it was in my checked bag as I gave it to them--one rep had not heard of it but didn't try to say/do anything to prevent me from taking it. Another TSA rep was already familiar with it. BL--like everything else new, it will take a while for everyone to become familiar with it, but it seems to pass the test.

Just saw the notice about TSA letting lighters back in carry-on. No torches, bic-types OK. What gets me is the rationale--because they confiscated too many lighters?? That's like saying they've confiscated too many knives!! Oh well, since matches weren't a problem before, a little headway has been made. BTW--just used the Transpak again without any problems.

I use the tranzpak; it works-- meaning that even the densest TSA screener can understand what it is and that it's OK.
Personally, I think all legal CCW holders and LEOs should be able to carry whatever they like onboard, the least dangerous of which would be a lighter in my case.
As it is now that 9/11 has happened, I'm sure that many share my determination to kill anybody who tries to hijack/blow up a plane I'm on, or die trying.
As usual, our benevolent government is very good at closing the barn door after the fact.
