I am travelling to the Dallas/Fort Worth area in the latter part of this week. What is the status of the smoking law there? Can we still smoke down there? If so, does anyone have a decent place to go? Thanks for the help.

Smoking is illegal in restaurants and any other enclosed public place. You can thank Laura Miller, our lovely mayor, for that one. However, smoking is allowed in bars (defined as such if they gross over 50% of sales in alcohol)and some clubs. If you're willing to spend a few pennies, I suggest the bar at Javier's (Mexico City Cuisine). They have a nice humidor with a Litto Gomez, Graycliff, Ashton VSG, and a few others I can't remember. The decor is very nice (if not gaudy), the drinks are expensive, and the cigars aren't cheap either, but I like it! Their website is http://www.javiers.net/. They have good food too, but expensive, and not what Dallas does best. Grab dinner at Mi Cocina in Highland Park Village (google it) or Mia's on Lemmon (must get brisket tacos) if you want what Texans do best, aside from barbecue, maybe (all my favorite barbecue places are open for lunch only- you must go to the original Sonny Bryan's or Big Al's Smoke House right down the road). Have fun in my hometown! Mark
