Ok.. so finally, I got to try this new collector edition of JW blue label King Georges V edition..
suppostly, it only consists of spirits that were produced in the same way as when King George V granted JW a distiller's permit in 1934. It also contains wiskies from the Port Ellen distillery (closed in the early eighties I beleive).
I usually don't like blue label too much, but this was in a class of it's own.. much less peaty than the regular blue label, with a nice sweet long finish... I loved it.. now I have to try and justif to the wife why I need a 400$ bottle of scotch next time I pass by the duty free....
anyone tried it ??
BTW, I have never seen a more beautiful case and bottle. the case, is 3 times the size of teeh blue label case.. it even contains 2 locks on the side!! the bottle is a beautiful decanter, with a top that must weight at least 1 lb.
Man, I can't wait to get my hand on my own
next in line is the 25 year old Chevas (also collector, but much cheaper)

I prefer single malt, and refuse to pay over $225 for a bottle. Had a bottle of JW Blue once, and it was very good, as I prefer the musty taste over the sweet malts.
Do you know how much Chimay or Rochefort Trappist beer you could buy with $400? A bloodly lot.
As well I prefer cask strength malts (55%+ alcohol), and luckily these tasty malts sell for between $100 and $150 a bottle. Cask strength tends to have a more intense flavor and buzz factor.
"Bud spelers of the word unight, and remumber: cabron is most abundent elemant in hte youknwverse"
i also prefer single malts over blends.. i just have a small penchant for JW (and specially gold).. I guess the whole JW takes me down memory lane or soemthing ...
was a scotch fanatic for years. prefer single malts unless its JW! JW is in a class of its own, especially the gold and blue labels. i grabbed a holiday edition 4 pack of liter bottles for $100 bucks, 1 blue,1 gold,1red and 1 black. but no green? dont know why they wouldnt put green in there as well. would be better if they did. i also have my eyes on that jw blue george V, but i thought it was $600 a bottle? JW just came out with a new blend called "SWING", a bit smoother with a nice bite and comes in a cool arse bottle that rocks back and forth when you touch it. its like those punching bag toys that wont tip over when you punch them, just stands right back up. good score for $60 a bottle. still nothing like JW blue label.
I just dont think i would be able to notice the difference between blue label and blue label king george. I'd like to try, but i can think of better uses of my cash. 3 bottles of regular blue label for one

I hear about the JW KG a few weeks back and decided to check into it. I did a search through google and found a place that sells it for $350, another for $400 and after that, it jumps to anywhere between $500-$700, dpending on what site you are looking at.
The Blue is excellent in my book, but like others have said, I prefer the single malts. My fiance' asked me to stop buying so many cigars (I have 2 100 coutns and a 250 that are full. I was spending $100+ a week.) I said "OK, Honey." Then, the little devil took over. No, I didn't buy any ciagars...I went on a single malt spree. I made up for a month of cigars in a week: Glenlivet 12, Glenlivet 15 French Oak Reserve, Macallan 12, Macallan 15 Fine Oak, Oban 14, and Dalwhinnie 15. Of course I stashed them in the study as soon as I got home so they wouldn't be discovered.
So, seeing as I did that little bit of shopping and have heard nothing but good things about the JW KG, it seems like just a matter of time before I aquire one of those, also.

Oh I know what you mean.. that single malt bug could be even more expensive than the cigar bug..
BTW, that Mcallan 15 Fine oak is slowly becoming one of my favs to drink..
such citrisy flavours, smooth and long finish... goes does sooo nicely... it's actually my favourite Mcallan (when compared to the 12, 18 and 25)
The Dalwhinne 15 has always been a staple in my bar...
I don't care too much for the glenlivit 12 or 15, but I love the 18.. it is one of the oiliest scotches I have ever drank.. coats your throat like olive oil would...
Love the JW Blue, used to pick it up on the way home from Bermuda for 100 USD. If it's there next time I'm there for the same price I'll pick up another bottle. Favorite malts are Oban 14, Mac 18, Dalwhinnie 15, Glen Portwood ... heard so many good things about the Mac 15 FO I will need to pick it up for the summer; seems citrus undertones will be perfect for the warmer weather ...

and you will not regret it.. as I mentioned, it has become my favourite McAllan
Went out last weekend to Ahses in Red Bank, NJ. If any of you live in Jersey, I recommend going there. Fabulous selection of single malts and blends and one of my best dining experiences ever. Sampled 4 that I had not had before. It will cost you about $75-100 a head, but worth it. Food, service and atmosphere were great.
