Looking for a good Port wine to have with my cigars. Something under $50 would be nice but just any suggestion would be good.

I found this old thread...

http://forums.cigaraficionado.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/47...=746103923#746103923

But I'm curious if some of the newer members have some additional suggestions, too...

For under $20, you can get two of my favorites: Fonseca Bin 27 and Graham's Six Grapes.

If you want something significantly better, you're going to need to spend $75+ for a vintage bottle.

Ferreira Dona Antonia Reserve is very good for the money, I would think in the US it would be under $25. Cedary, with berry/fig flavours, goes very well with cigars.

Maybe too "cheap" for you Razz, but I think the Hardy's "Whiskers Blake" Tawny Port is a killer bargain at about $15 a bottle.

That came off kind of snotty so I threw in a smiley. Big Grin

good cheap port? Clocktower, from Australia.

2003 Taylor Fladgate is about $75, but received 100 point perfect rating from WA.

I enjoy tawny ports with my cigars. The best one for the money, IMHO, is an Austrailian port, Illapara, 10 year tawny. $18 bucks here in NC. Cockburn's 20 year is my favorite..........

Sandeman is standard commercial stuff. Not good; not bad; not expensive.

I like Dow, Fonseca and Warre's Warrior as well...

This past weekend I was at CVS and as I passed through the spirits section, I saw a weekend special on a port. It was an Australian port named Benjamin. $7.99 a bottle...I thought, "Heck, I spend that much on a couple of cups of coffee at Barnes and Noble so why not"

It is different than some of the ports I mentioned above. This has a "smoky" or "dusty" flavor. If that makes sense. Less sweet than most with perhaps a touch more alcohol content (whatever alcohol they use down there...brandy?)

Still undecided as to whether it will have a permanent place in my cabinet. Will have to keep drinking ...if my wife asks why I am drinking so much, I will respond it is a scientific experiment that I am participating in < wink wink> hee hee...taking for the team, thats me...bring on another bottle.

GONZO !!!

Try the Porto Rocha LBV 2000 Port. 20 bucks in WA. A great value. LBV is late bottle vintage.

For a good port wine, I also recommend any 10 year tawny.

If your looking for a sweet wine to pair with a good smoke i would suggest an Eiswein, Louis Guntrum makes my favorite. http://www.broadbent-wines.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=cat...ategory_id_int=12016

I also like Benjamin's - it's a nice change of pace, and it holds it's own against some more expensive Portos.

Yalumba Antique Tawny Port absolutely blew me away. By far the best port I have ever had. A 375ml bottle was about $18 at BevMo.
