I had my first RumRunner while on vacation in Key West a few months ago. Does anyone have a good recipe for them?

Here's my favorite Rum Runner recipe...though there are thousands out there....I got this from a bartender at the Sonesta Resort in Key Biscayne...

Sonesta Rum Runner:
*1 oz. Rum (I like a dark/heavy Jamaican Black rum, but Myers Dark, or any other Rum will do)
*1/2 oz. each: Blackberry Brandy & Creme de Banana
*Splash of Fresh Pineapple juice & Fresh Orange juice
*Dash of Grenadine
*Shake & serve on the rocks in tall glass
*Float a bit of Myers or Dark Rum on top...or if you want to go gonzo....put in a straw, and fill it with 151.....the first sip will set you free.

They are one of the most refreshing hot-weather drinks around (other than a Mojito)...
Enjoy
Cool

I guess its all about personal taste but I much prefer gin martinis to vodka martinis. Actually my martinis are all gin and I prefer to use a stirrer so I don't get any small chunks of ice in my drink as so often happens when shaken. James Bond was a fool.

Yup, dirty martinis are pretty good. Just don't put too much olive juice.

Martinis, Did someone say Martinis? Yes I like a Martini once in a while. I prefer Bombay Sapphire Gin, but to put a twist on things every so often I'll put in a scotch instead of a vermouth. Try it, it really smooths everything out. Of course I like the BIG OLIVES to go with it.

Glad to see this post is still alive.

Yes I am still drinking my Saturday evening Martini (Tanqueray).

I have also been toying with Manhattans without the bitters. Nice with a marichino cherry.

I am a nut for martinis. Love both gin and vodka, although I find I have to be in the mood for a gin martini.

I use maybe an eyedropper of extra dry vermouth in my martinis -- any more than that will lousy up the mix.

I like mine shaken, not stirred -- must have seen the Bond films a few too many times. If using vodka, it's Grey Goose and if it's gin, I like Tanqueray 10, Bombay Saphire, or Old Raj.

Any thoughts on martini's evil twin, the Manhattan? I started to get into it recently and am really enjoying it.

I keep a bottle of Bombay Sapphire and a couple of martini glasses in the freezer at all times. Pour directly from bottle to frosted glass, add half a thimble of vermouth, stir with a long twist of lemon peel, and ... magic time.

Yeah, I know ... it violates the 'shaken, not stirred' maxim. Sue me.

OK, I'll bite.
I got creative the other night and added basil leaves to my shaker full of vodka. Poured it into a martini glass & added a twist of lemon (peel only). Garnished with another basil leaf.

I won't call it a basil martini, nor a basil gimlet, since I do agree that a true martini is vodka or gin (gin to the ultra purists), a drop of vermouth, and an olive or 2 (deviate by stuffing it with blu cheese).
These days, you can order something that looks like a milkshake, they pour it into a martini glass and call it a "_____ Martini".

I got to the point where I didn't really like the cognac any more or the single malts and got hooked on rum.
My favorites for drinking straight up with a good cigar would be Pyrat superior blanco (this stuff is really nice) and Zaya grand reserva.
The Zaya to me has to be a 100. I can't imagine any better. I have had HC anejo 7 yr and reserva. I like the Zaya best.

Has anyone ever made a rum martini? (ie: rum in lieu of vodka or gin)

Would such a drink be worthy of the name martini?

Here's a recipe for a Rum martini - dry.
Fill a martini glass with chilled Rum. Dip the tip of an esplendido in for a second or two.
Drink rum, smoke cigar.

I usually enjoy an Opus X with a Martini.

What do you like to relax with?

I like Gin and drink alot of Gin and tonics. I also will periodicly drink vermouth strieght, but stragely enough i hate martinis. Something about the mixing of the two tastes gross.
Confused

Perfered beverages are Beer, Wine, Rum, Port, brandy, everything eles that contains alcohol.
(not nesicarily in that order)
