when you dabble in the single malt world you'll be able to pair the unique flavors of single malts with the unique flavors of cigars...for instance, i love the lighter, floral, heather flavors of speysiders (especially Macallan 15) with the earthy floral ERDM Choix Supreme. or a rich Highland Park 18 with a BBF.

Mmm. Great thread!
I love my Arberlour, Glenkinchie and occasional bottle of Glenmorangie (has the wife's name in it- how can it be bad?)
I pull out the Edradour only on special occasions.

Who's got 2 thumbs and loves cigars?
This guy.

Another really good book is KINDRED SPIRITS: The Spirit Journal Guide to the World's Distilled Spirits and Fortified Wines; By: F. Paul Pacult.

The book has a good overview of Scotch, Vodka, Bourbon, Rum, Brandy, Gin, etc; with reviews of better known brands, history, ratings. Decent read and under $20.00.

I'm a single malt fan. Glen Livet is my current favorite. Years ago I had one called "Old Sheep Dip." I could have sworn it was a single malt. I special ordered some and what showed up in totally new packaging was a blend. It wasn't too bad.....hard to find a lousy expensive Scotch.......... Wink Big Grin

Alot of people get very "snooty" about their scotch. Thinking blended scotch is inferior or "I only drink single malt". Just like in cigars, consume what ya like. Screw the "snooty people"!

I enjoy my Dimple Pinch blended straight up along side a nice smoke, say a Diamond Crown Maximus.

Hey Mr.E, if you are quoting me about "snooty people", at least give me credit. Wink

Frankly, I don't care if someone drinks White Lightning with their Swisher Sweets. It is a personal preference thing. Just don't make me do it... Yuck.

Like my Dad always said, "if we all liked the same thing, there would be a long line to get it".

I must be one of the "snooty" people as well, I find that a mediocre single malt tastes better then a great blended scotch. But that is just me. Each person must decide for themselves what the enjoy and then enjoy it.

Lagavullin is my favorite, but I also enjoy Talisker and Bowmore Cask Strength. For mixing with water or soda I use JW Black Label. It's all good.

I drink Laphroaig ritually. I have tasted many but I buy only Laphroaig, so far.

As for bourbon, if you enjoy, you must try Elijah Craig.
