I recently opened a bottle of 18-yr old single malt with a new friend, and he inspected the cork and offered me the bottle. I understand the procedure with wine, but have never known of this with scotch. Am I a cad? What was I supposed to do with the bottle?

Im drinking my first single malt right now, a Glenfiddich Special Reserve 12 Year. I definately dont have a taste for it yet, but maybe by the end of the bottle i will. I couldnt handle it neat yet, so im drinkin it with a splash of cold water.

I enjoy the Dalmore Highland Single Malt.
Dalmore also makes a Cigar Malt. I have never seen it. Anyone ever heard of it. Or better yet tried it?

IMHO the cigar malt is a bit to sweet for my taste buds, I like the regular Dalmore better , not that it is bad , but I dont think I will buy this as a daily Dramm . Enjoy, Vince

There are indeed a number of Australian malts, Jim Murray's 2006 Whisky Bible talks very highly of the aforementioned Tasman Distillery offering. The desrciptions of the Tasmanian Sullivan's Cove sound, shall we say challenging. "awesomely weird" Happy hunting!

p.s really enjoying Longmorn 15 yo at the moment

Algernon,Saxon9075 and Bones
I noticed you Talking about the sullivans cove single malt Whisky, i happen to have followed this whisky in Australia for some time as there is a revergining whisky industry taking hold again.

I have tried this whisky from a two years old right through to its current age of eight years, and can tell you that yes in the early days it was a rip snorter very volitile lots of splintery wood oak Not alot of character.

I noticed from the four year mark that the flavours were starting to come togeather Defined port oak flavour with good mouth feel.

At the seven year mark well what can I say the whisky is now showing some deep choclate cigar, with some nice light smokey characters, really well defined, and thats just there 40% whisky, the cask strength aged in french oak Won a gold medal in the south australian whisky awards and the cask strength aged in American oak once filled bourban barrel won silver Out of the 400 something whiskys I think it was about 12 that won gold.and we are talking about some 12 to 30 year old drops from around the world.

if your interested i can try and find the news letter it came from, if you want to get some of this whisky go to www.tasmaniadistillery.com.au I think thats the web site.

I hope this helps to shed some light on a unknown whisky.

Wink
