I've always had the itch to visit Colombia and recent newspaper accounts (i.e. NYT) have written how the country is much safer now than it used to be...though I am a seasoned traveler, safety would still be a top concern of mine particularly since I would be traveling alone to this country.

I'm thinking of checking out Cali. I see they have an annual festival towards the end of the year (Feria de Cali) that features bull fights, salsa, and--of course, those lovely Colombian women. Cali also happens to be the only city in the country that has a LCDH....any inputs would be appreciated.

Went to Cali in 2000 for biz. Some cool restaurants and HOT wimins. Had a bodyguard. We went to a hacienda outside the city for dinner. Went through a government checkpoint, that at first we thought was rebel. Was a little hairy back then.

Go to Cartegena. Very colonial, and very nice.

So what do you think about Cali--OK for me to go alone...or, combination Cali / Cartagena....ran into a couple oc Colombians who were very high on La Feria (from Xmas - New Years) and they said it was a very fun festival...just curious about the safety factor...also, do you recall which hotel you stayed at--I am thinking of Cali Plaza Hotel.

I was in Cali in 1999. Lots to see but not too many cigars available in the tourist areas.
