i have been looking to join them for a long time, but never had the chance to attend one of their tastings. does anyone know more about them? when do they have any meetings in Texas? who makes their cigars? is it really worth it to join? it seems very prestigious. thanks for the help in advance.
I never heard of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society of America before. Can you post a URL to their web site?

Greg--I don't know about the prestige, but I have learned a lot about single malts from the SMW society, and I have enjoyed some amazing whiskies from their bottlings. However, they are not cheap....

The cigars they give away are regular brand NCs. Typically something Upman, Montecristo and one other NC brand. Certainly nothing to join over or go to one of the events for!
If you are going to join, go to one of the tastings to join.
Joining at the tasting earns you one free bottle for your membership. Typically at the tastings, amongst the numerous brands, they have at least 5 SMWS bottles to go through so you can taste what you MIGHT want to select as your FREE bottle.
