6 years ago I stopped drinking. No I am enjoying cigars as much as I did fine wine.

So I decided to try some scotch with my better smokes.Dewars, Jb dont cut it. So I got a bottle of "the Arran Malt". 300 bottles produced from one keg of Chateau Margaux Bordeaux. I like it on ice.

Does anyone have any suggestions, I never was a Scotch Drinker and have quickly aquired a taste for "Boutique Single Malts". Any help in finding good Single Malts at less than $100 a bottle.

I like Johnnie Walker Green. It's a 15 year old single molt (if you're not familiar). I prefer it to 12 year old Macallan. I haven't try 20 year Macallan - I've heard it's quite good, but it's over $200 a bottle. At that price my favorite is Johnnie Walker Blue - even if it's not a single molt.

I usually only have single malts but had some JW Blue the other night and thought it was fantastic. That's the first blended Scotch that I liked really.

If I can't have a single malt, I will always opt for JW black. The kinds of places I frequent do not have blue or green out on the bar.

Next time you should try "gold". Most bars have it. And even though it's not quite "blue" but it beats "black" with its great oak aroma.

personally, I love the blue, but I don't think it's worth the price tag.. if you want some really good johnny waker, you should definitely try the gold.... you're supposed to put the whole bottle on ice, and drink the cold scotch neat...

there was a johnny walker sampling booth at the paddocks at the last F1 race in Montteal with JW reps on hand and sampling of all their colours, and they had the gold on ice.. they told me it's the way it was meant to be drank.. i strated doing the same with my gold label, and it has taken a whole new world of taste ever since!!!!

now as for green label, it's not a single malt, but actually a vetted malt... a vetted malt is a mix between a blend and a single malt.... in a single malt, they use only one type of grain, comig from one source. in a blend, they use different kind of grains coming from different sources.. now a vetted mald, consists of a single type grain (usually barley), coming from different sources.. personally, I don't like the green too much.....

I would try any Islay single malt, it’s not a brand but a location. Scotch from this area has a peaty (Smokey) flavor to it. it make be a bit strong tasting for the new scotch drinker, but is great with a fine cigar. another favorite Delwhinnie if the spelling is correct, this to is a very good scotch. both are single malt 12 year olds. I just tried Oban; 14 year old with very good flavor and will complement any cigar. I like the R&J reserve real's and Rocky Patel’s Sun Grown, but no matter what you try, their is always a different scotch to try.

Cheers

i personally find most islay scotches too smokey for my taste..... and the finish is longer than I'd like.... so my condlusin: I don't like islay scotches.... if I have to choose a single malt, I much prefer northern highland stuff...

I enjoy Islay malts. Try Lagavulin 16, Bowmore Marnier 15 or others with that smoky peaty flavor.

There are plently of decent single malts for $30 - 40 or less on sale... I think the regular Dalmore Single Malt actually pairs better than their "Cigar Malt". Having never tried it can anyone offer their opinion on pairing Port wine or Cognac with cigars? For me it's been red wine, beer or scotch usually and am curious about these two options.

Islay malts are by far my favorite. Here is a great resource I have posted before for information on single malt scotch.

Dr. Wu, I drink cognac when I smoke. Sometimes just straight, but sometimes in a sidecar. My dad also drinks Grand Marnier when he smokes and if my memory serves me, that's a brandy/cognac based liqour. But brandy goes great with a cigar. It's definitely worth trying. But try it with a decent bottle.
