What is the best whiskey for the price? I am looking to for something that is of good quality but won't set me back a whole lot.

I like Knob Creek or Evan Williams Single Barrel. On the low end, Jim Beam has never failed me.

Makers Mark is always my go to brand. And good ol' Jack Daniels, believe it or not, is rated very high. I was at a Chivas tasting dinner and they used Jack as a blind.

bourbon (my fav) knob creek, bookers, wild turkey 101

Great bourbons: Makers Mark, Knob Creek and Wild Turkey. In that order, about 20-25 dollars a 5th.

Rye/Cdn Whiskey - Crown Royal -although the Canadian Club 12 year old is nice
Scotch Whisky - Single Malt best value - Glenmorangie or Ableour - both 10 yr olds
Blended Best Value - Chivas 12 Year Old

Dalmore 12 yrs. is hard to beat. It goes from $45 to 55 in Europe but US could be a different story.

Being a Scotch man, I can't comment with any authority on Bourbon, Rye, Irish, ect.
As Scotches go, The Oban is a great single malt for the price. Also, Balvenie and Glenmorangie seem to go well with many moderate to full bodied cigars.
If you prefer a smoother blended Scotch, the inexpensive White Label Dewars goes down well.
Johnny Walker line (Red,Black & Blue) uses upper end single malt scotches in their blend profiles.
Tasting, experimenting and savoring good whiskies offer many of the same intrinsic pleasures that good cigar smoking provides.

buck for buck, the best buy IMHO is Spayburn Single malt 10 YO Scotch WHISKY ( NO E) , under 25 bucks a bottle & a dammmm fine taste & great aroma , matches well with any cigar I have ever had with it , from Mild to full body , a FINE DRAM for sure , I dont drink the other stuff, JUST scotch & 95% are single malts , the only blend I have in the house is Haig & Haig Pinch bottle I use it for mixing up rusty nails when I have one .

It depends on if you are mixing it or just having one on the rocks.

On the rocks- Jack Daniels Single Barrel, Jameson Irish Whiskey
Jameson and the single barrel are going to be a bit higher priced but well worth it.

Scotch Single Malts: Balvenie DoubleWood. 5th goes for about 45 clams.

Cdn Blend: most will put Crown here, but give Pendleton a shot. It's about $35 US and is a better drink with a cigar. However, it's hard to find at times.

And my personal favorite is Johnnie Walker Green. Most have bypassed this one in favor of the Blue (WAY to expensive). I can usually find a bottle for about $45 and is the next level up from JW Black. Great drink that brings out cedar flavors from most cigars.

Bulleit's a nice bourbon but the little "bite" at the end may take away from some cigars. For smoothness, I enjoy Maker's Mark, Jim Beam or I go with JW Black Label (still haven't acquired the Green one) or a Glenlivet 12. The Glenlivet runs $25 on sale (which isn't terribly often in my neck of the woods) and so far has balanced out very well with a decent smoke.

i'm a scotch fan so i'll stick with that...Lag 16 is my fav, but i have no idea how you guys had pair that with a smoke, the whisky is brutally powerful/Full flavor..which is why i like it, but always kills a smoke. of coarse all Islay's are too strong for a smoke, save for Arbeg.

Someone mentioned Highland Park 18..one of the greatest cigar pairings and great for anyone new...as the Jackson review on the box says "greatest all around whisky" and its tough to disagree. about $65 for a dang fine bottle. if you want less. Cragganmore 12 at $40 is one of the greatest values on the market IMO. also pairs well with cigars, as do most Speysiders. then you can also get the Highland Park 12 for about $40 which is great, but tastes similar to Johnnie Black (blended) but with a tad more depth.

maybe you should give us a style of whisky and price range....

all this talk is making me thirsty...on a snowy new england night i think a glenfarclas 105 is in order (100 proof) with rich ripe fruit flavors. ($65). now i'm getting off topic but i'm thinking about summer, which means time to stock up on Macallan 15 Fine Oak. if you boys haven't had that, pick it up. amazing malt with none of the sherry power typically in macs. amazing floral and pairs perfectly with ERDM Choix Supreme!! ($70), although if macallan puts through another price increase i'll be ticked.

I'm a blended scotch drinker, but my roots were grown in whiskey. I always keep Crown Royal, Jameson and Seagram's 7 in my cabinet. IMO, 7 is the best bang for your buck. It doesn't overpower, and it also mixes well in a pinch. Jameson is my personal favorite as I can have it on the rocks, undiluted.

As far as scotch goes, I spare no expense (my wife hates it). I shop at a military class 6 store, so the prices aren't what they would be at a normal store. I get my Johnnie Blue for $100 flat, green for about $60-65, and black for about $30.

Being a Canadian would have to say some of the best Canadian Whiskey is made from Seagrams and Sons. Myself I love single malt scotch and the Glenfiddich 15 year old is my choice with a good cuban cigar you can not go wrong.

I love abelour 10 and laphroig 10. They are absolutely opposite ends of the scotch whisky spectrum but both are equally tasty and affordable.

Wild Turkey "Rare Breed" for special occasions, Evan Williams for everyday. (Wish it was still 90 proof)
